Can you run both PTO\'s at once?

My Cub is my first tractor with 2 PTO's. So I am wondering if both can be run at once? I have a 72" MMM and was thinking of buying a rear brush hog mower deck for knocking down the edges of my fields while I mow.

What size would that brush hog be? If it were less than 72 inches seems like it would do about nothing...and a 84" brush hog is pretty big!!! Might take a lot of HP to run. Then again, it would only be cutting a small area...not sure if the idea makes any sense or not. Sorta think not...but maybe I am missing the obvious. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Not sure about the cub but the new JD 4x10's you need the rear PTO running to run the mid PTO.

I think your main concern should be do you have enough HP to run both. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Not sure about your cub but my bx can. I would imagine if it can, your manual will state how to run both. My pto selector levers have decals showing which pto are operated in which position.

The JD 4100 has a selector: front, rear, or both together are selectable. I can't think of any use for both at once. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Some rear baggers have a fan assist powered by the rear PTO. I think Kubota has such an option. Not sure about Deere or NH.

My jd 4010 has the selector allowing mid, rear, or both also.

Maybe a front mount snowblower (run off of the mid PTO) and a 3pt salt spreader? That would (could) make sense.

Or for mowing, could have the MMM and then a boom rotary (or even a flail) mower to be used on one side or the other, so you could mow on the top of a ditch and mow the slope of the ditch at the same time.

My 855 (and I believe the entire x55 line) has a three position selector for mid, rear or both PTOs engaged.

(At least I think it does...I am not home now, so I can't go check)
