Can you mow a hayfield with a BX24?

I had a brush hog for my BX and hated it. The cut wasn't that good, it was slow, and once the meadow was at a reasonable level, it was much easier to just keep it mowed with the MMM. Hitting a rock with a brush hog will wake you up in a hurry! For one account, I wouldn't bother. I have a friend who brush hogs for people and he only does meadows he can walk before the grass is too tall. Venturing into tall grass that you've never been in before can be dangerous. He's hit old barbed wire fences, run into wet spots or holes that got him stuck, and hit some rocks pretty badly. His brush hog after 2 years has had many repairs. Considering his time and repairs, it's not a moneymaker for sure. Up to you, but if you're in business there are other things you could do that are more profitable.

You should stick to mowing sidewalks!! :D :) :D

Hit a rock with my RFM and you might get 3 wake up calls! Oh and it exits a lot faster to. Walking a field, going slow the first time, plan common sense. But I admit I don't always use it either. :D

Trouble is, even when you know the meadows well, you can't remember every rock. I painted the tops of a couple with that dayglo paint so I remember, since some hide pretty well. If I had a bigger tractor they'd be popped out with the loader for sure. My friend that does brush hogging tries to walk the meadows but some are quite large and he's an older guy. He'd get bored doing sidewalks anyway :)

If so, what implement is the correct tool for this task?
I have a mowing account client that has a couple acres of field he would like mowed 1 or 2 times a season...It is fairly level and wide open...only a couple of brush "islands" here and there.
Was wondering if the income from the mowing would offset the cost of an implement. ( I know eventually it would, but having the client stay on with me is no guarantee season by season)

Is there a scissor type implement available for the BX? (like a sickle bar)
For meadow, field mowing 1 or 2 times a year rotary cutter, less maintenance and they dont care near as much when you find rocks, have 2 foot tall grass or have some brush to chew on. Max size for bx 48". Good deals can be found on new lighter duty 48 inchers. Go slow in new field, meadows. Can be used for hay, but cuttn hay best left for swathers, 3pt sicklebar or 3pt disc mowers for the BX.
