A few years back I went through 3 phones in about 2 months. 1st one fell unnoticed out of my pocket while loading the pickup. Noticed it after I backed over it - bunch of little pieces. Next one got hooked out of my pocket while jumping from a boat to the dock - into the water and gone. Last one, not making this up, our young (at the time) lab picked it off the patio table and chewed it to pieces. While buying the 4th phone, my provider convinced me to buy insurance for the phone. Never needed to replace a phone due to damage or loss since - go figure.

I always tell my wife and kids to never, ever place something on the trunk of the cars. They have driven off more than once with cell phones and other items never to be seen again.
