Can you add a second remote to a single?

When I got my L4200 years ago you had to get either the single,double or triple remote. No way to add two singles together. I talked to my dealer just now and never could get if I could order a single NOW and later add another single on my incoming L5040. They used to come were if you wanted two remotes you had to remove the single remote and install the two remotes. Have they changed that now? If so I'll get a single and then might add one down the road.

My M8540 came with two remotes and I was told they can add another set if I need it any time. I don't think I will need one, but you never know.
