I think you'd be money ahead keeping the RTV, which you clearly find useful, and picking up a riding mower or ZTR. There are some guys on another thread taking each other to the mat over Husqvarna vs Deere mowers. Check out the Husqvarna's for good low cost mowers. ZTR's are fast but they only do one thing, mow.

If it were me I'd probably get an entry level riding mower for the one acre lawn then put 10k down on something like an L series Kubota to manage your nine acres over the long term.

+1 on the concept. I no longer purchase nor use multi purpose tools in most any category for anything. There are just too many compromises I am no longer willing to tolerate. My purchases these days are based upon single use type of work.

We mow ~ 1 acre cleared the house sits on using a low end JD lawn tractor the wife got from Lowes on a year end clearance sale; grass cutting is what it is made to do and it does it well and relatively inexpensively in relatively short order. I also have a Polaris Ranger 900 XP UTV as a tool and use its winch for stretching horse fence on new installs, hauling sod, rocks, firewood, etc when the tractor can't get into a certain spot for whatever reason. And we could not do without a tractor and FEL for anything more heavy duty.

Thanks for your opinions all -- nice to get input from those not caught up in the situation. Looks like the consensus is to simply add a mower. Since I'm looking to save time I'm going to look for a reasonably priced ZTR and consider adding a tractor down the road if/when needed.
