Just a wish you best of luck here , but maybe you could dig out a gold nugget or two with your project ....it could happen

Late----Don't feel bad since I will do ding the same thing this spring. I have to dig only about 24 holes with the BH. A PHD might be faster but the BH is more FUNNNNNN!!!!!!

Gold has been mined not far from here for a long time. The Hatcher Pass mine is about 12 miles from here and was one of the most productive operations around. I don't know of anyone finding any of the yellow stuff while excavating for houses here in the valley. That would sure be a nice way to finance more tractor implements, heck even another tractor if it is big enough.

I used a 10" bucket to dig post holes around my property and it worked great using my old L2650 Kubota back hoe. No way a PHD would have worked as I had to many 8 to 10 inch rocks to fight .

One of the reasons I got the tractor was to expand my lawn in all directions. I'm surrounded by thick woods and there are many many rocks. I rented a post hole digger remembering what a horror show a two man gas powered job turned out to be when putting in a deck years ago. It literally turned our hands into hamburger hitting rocks. I guessed right, the 3pt post hole digger was virtually worthless in my lawn. The rental place recommended a power-down model with a rock cutting bit, but it needed more HP than I have.

Using a backhoe to move rocks has also been an experience. I too have hit rocks that just barely poke up from the ground but turn out to be the size of volkswagens. I have a new system. I dig out about three feet around the rock in all directions and if I still can't find a lip or budge it I let it be.

I wouldn't know what to do with it even if I could move such a rock. And it would take 500 dollars worth of topsoil to fill the hole!

If you want to put a post there, you buy a hammer drill and drill a hole into the rock. Then you put a threaded rod into the hole and use the fast setting epoxy cement to hold it in place. Use one of the post anchors and set your post onto that and put the dirt back around it. Don't tell anyone what you did and I won't either. It will look like it is down the proper distance and no one will be the wiser. You just have to learn 10 different ways to skin a New England Cat called Rocks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
