can my 28 hp tractor pull a 5-6\' double row disc?

Ok, I've got my new tractor.
There is a either 5 or 6 foot disc forsale down the street. It has a single row the is parallel with the back of the tractor and a second row that runs slightly at an angle to the first. Will a 28 hp tractor handle that thing?

If you try it and can't pull it, you could probably easily remove a disc or two and make it effectively narrower.

I pull a 6.5 foot similar disk with my Kubota B2710. IT has 27 gross, 20 PTO horsepower, and HST. The tractor pulls it just fine. Picks it up just fine also.

I pull a very heavy two row disc with my old Ford 2N ( about 22 hp ) . The disc probably weighs around 750-1000 lbs. . I have power to spare but it was impossible to steer until I filled the front tires to add weight.

You should not have a problem so long as you have ag tires and enough weight up front to keep the wheels on the ground.

You may have to fill the rear wheels with fluid to have enough traction.

Tell us a bit about your "28 hp tractor" and we may be able to offer an opinion.

I pulled one with a 20hp tractor, no problem. But depending on what you have your 28hp in, it may be a problem for you. Also, the position of the blades and weight on the disc will make a big difference on how hard (or easy) it pulls. Also, the ground you are working up and the traction you have relative to that ground will make a big difference.

A 5hp tractor with the right gear ratio and the right 'contact' with the ground will pull it. Probably slower than you might want to go. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It should pull them no problem. I have a 22HP 2 Cylinder Chinese tractor and it pulled them fine. The soil I have is rocky and clay. Sure beats a rototiller in those conditions. Pictures are on my site under tractor album.

Mine was only a 5 ft I borrowed but with your extra hoses a 6 footer shouldn't be too demanding..

Use your brakes as a steering aid, that's why farm tractors have separate right an left brakes... There is no tractor I know of that will steer worth a **** in loose dirt pulling a heavy load...

I even use the brakes when mowing, this keeps the front wheels from plowing an tearing up the real estate...
