Can i use a John deere mx-8 on a l5740?

Guys just found a 5 hr old mx-8 semi mount that I can get for $3500- Is that a good match for the 5740?

It looks like you can, PTO HP minimum of 40 HP and you have 50 HP. Weight won't be an issue as it is semi-mount. Go to the Land Pride web site, check L Series and it will show you suitable cutters then compare with the MX8, looks like it will be OK.

I have JD MX8 mower. Mine is mounted and very heavy. I initially mounted it on JD 4020 (95 HP). Under most conditions the tractor handled the load just fine but in tall, wet brome, the 4020 had a load. I have switched the mower to an IH 1486 (160 HP). That mower needs horsepower and I think it would be to much for a 50 hp tractor unless used for only short, turf type grass. I have a JD 6 foot mounted mower that I use behind a New Holland TC35 (35 hp) and that mower loads the New Holland in thick tall grass. Possibly a better match for your tractor would be the MX7.

I had a Rhino tw96 that I ran behind a L4200 glide shift. Did just fine. Sometimes heavy grass would slow it down and I would have to raise it a bit. If you have any issues with power, and I don't think you will, just slow down/raise the mower a bit/sharpen the blades a touch or all three.
