My CT 120 air filter seems to be dirty with exhaust soot rather than other types of particulates you would expect.
I'm thinking of trying to either re-routing the intake or exhaust to prevent this from occurring. Have any of you noticed this problem?? Is it even much of a problem to worry about??

This sounds like a design issue. You shouldn't be seeing exhaust particulate on your air filter. Whether it will cause a clogging problem (low power, higher EGT's) remains to be seen. It will probably be easier to put add to the exhaust pipe then to relocate the air filter. Sometime just adding an elbow to the exhaust to turn it away from the intake can help. I'm not familiar with your particular machine so that's all I can say.
