Can anyone please ID this planter? I recently aquired 2 of them and want to find out if they are worth repairing. I have tool bar and hitch to use them on, but they appear to be missing some parts? I need to know the model so maybe I can get a parts breakdown.
Thanks

Maybe a John Deere row unit from a 246 planter?

Thanks everyone for your help! The link to the parts catalog was especially helpful, going through the "ID View"s I was able to determine the planter is a 23R.
It's not missing as many parts as I thought, it's just a simpler design than I've seen before. Hopefully I will be able to get one or both of them going.

The more I learn about this planter the more I suspect I might now own (another) pile of antique scrap. There ARE some critical pieces missing, including a "false ring". Does anyone know if other models fit this planter or a source for parts?
OR, alternatively, does anyone need parts off this planter?
Thanks.

Check ebay under corn planters, there is a planter tub that looks like it has the false ring in it that might fit that planter.

The False Rings are available through Lincoln AG as well as Deere Inc. ANY parts for that planter are still available through Deere. (just have your wallet tuned up and ready before you order!)

All plates, false rings, ect, are "type B", same as all Deere plate planters from the mid 1930's on until they quit building plate planters.

After conducting a nationwide hunt via Internet and email, I ended up finding most of the missing parts for the 23R planter a mile and a half down the road from an old corn farmer. He has a 6 row and had been collecting spare parts for years. I was able to get the false rings and cutoff plates I needed. He even had the parts to rebuild the cotton attachment. (Not that I intend to ever plant cotton).
The only things we couldn't find were the knocker parts. I ordered them from the local JD dealer for $27.
Below is a pic of how the seed plates fit in this planter for anyone interested. It kind of had me scratching my head until I figured it out. It doesn't have the seperate drive plate and gear like other JD planters. Notice if I use the plastic plates I would need to grind off 2 of the dogs on the ID.
[For those with attention to detail, I know the metal seedplate in the picture is broken, I was just using it for a test :) ]
I have more pics if anyone is interested in this oddball.
