Can a diesel engine run on gas. .

Friend bought a new 2011 Ford F350 dually with the 6.7 and stopped in Arkansas to fill up on his way to Illinois. Truck quit after about 30 miles. Had it towed into a Ford dealership, who promptly found gas in the fuel. He pulled out his receipt, had filled up with diesel. Called the gas station and as soon as they heard what the issue was, gave him a phone number to corporate. Seems a tanker driver had dropped a load of gas into the diesel tank and corporate made the call to just fill the tank the rest of the way with diesel rather than pumping it. Apparently the blend was heavier than they thought. They covered the repair bill and offered a motel and dinner, but my friend was towing a camper already set up behind the Ford dealership before the offer was made.

Diesel nozzles at truck stops tend to be BIG...better flow to fill big tanks faster.

Despite what some think, there is not any industry standard for nozzle color.

Ford (maybe others) basically wants to swap out the fuel system...hence the crazy cost. I'm not at all sure if this overkill or not. Some folks seem to do just fine draining the tank and adding ATF with fresh diesel.

If you want to be conservative, don't even turn the key (or push button). Doing so will fire up fuel pumps. Call a tow truck.

A decade or two ago,while driving a fuel tanker,we had a mis-dump.
The gas/diesel mix was pumped out and sold to a petroleum/nat gas driller 60 miles away.
They use to lubricate the drilling bit.
It wasn't me,but I've come awfully close!

So my update . I did as a few suggested . I siphoned the fuel out . The fuel filter was higher then the tanks so gravity was not an possibility. Dropped in a cup of ATF and filled it with new diesel. Crossed my fingers and started it. . Ran for about 5 seconds and died . Ran for 5 seconds and died. Ran for 10 seconds and died. Ran for 15 seconds rough and then settled down to run normal. Let it run for 30 minutes and sounds good. . Thanks. for the assistance.

The lack of lubrication of gas can ruin diesel fuel injection systems. Specially the newer common rail systems with tight clearances.
If you think, it may only affect the fuel system, you could be terribly wrong.
Cummins had a series of bad fuel delivery pumps in their 15 liter engines. If those pumps failed, they took out the whole engine.
Adding lubrication is a good idea. I do it too on my semi. But I use 2 cycle oil only. That oil is designed to burn. Whereas ATF is designed to withstand heat.

That is why I save the last 6 months of diesel receipts for my 6.7L F250.

If gas will destroy a diesel engine can some please explain how a friends old TD9 International crawler with a over shot bucket starts on gas and then is switched over to diesel to work. I realize there is no load as it sits and warms up
