Can 4200 handle 6\' attachments?

I have a 4200 MFWD and want to get a box blade and either a brush hog or finish mower. I'm probably going to go with the King Kutter brand on each. Does anyone have any experience with a 4200 and the 6' attachments? Should I go with 6' or stick with 5' or some combination?

Re: Can 4200 handle 6\' attachments?

I had a 1996 955 before my 4700. I have a Woods RM990 rear discharge mower that weighs 1200 lb that I used behind the 955. That was about the limit of the 3 point lift capability and HP that was required to drive it. I also used a 6 ft rear blade that was no problem for it.

The 955 only weighed 2000 lbs. Your 4200 weighs 2700 lbs. The 955 had 27 HP at the PTO where the 4200 has 22 HP. I would stay with the 5 ft brush hog, but you could easily run a 6 ft finish mower.

Your tractor is heavy enough to pull a box blade that weighs 600 lbs or less using MFWD so you might want to stay with a 5 ft unit.

I have a 4200 and use a 5' rear finish mower and a 5' box blade with no problem. JD literature says you can use a 6' finish mower, but only a 5' light duty rotory mower. I'd stick to the 5 footer based on my limited experience.

My dealer suggested 5 ft. imps. 513 cutter,5ft.5 tooth "rippers"boxblade. In realy tall thick grass"knee high"with a little dew on it im sure low range would be the best you could do.

I run a 6' light duty rotary cutter behind my JD950 (27 PTO hp). It does fine in 2H or 3H unless I get into really heavy tall grass. Then I have to slow down to maybe 3L. I don't think you will be happy with a 6' unless you only mow short grass.
