Looks like CA has just adopted the most comprehensive and far reaching legislation to go "Green"

Tomorrow the regulators will decided whether or not to implement mandatory phase out of older Diesel Engines... Truckers and Heavy Equipment Operators protested today saying their jobs are already on the line and this could shutter a lot of small operators.

I understand improvement, but I was also taught by my parents the take care and maintain equipment so that it will last. Looks like I may be left with perfectly good, well maintained equipment that will be illegal to operate.

Coming to your State soon?

Pure stupidity. This will further hurt the US economy. Sure, it's a good "goal" to want cleaner equipment. The problem is, the US already has pretty stringent standards for everything environmental. Places like Mexico, China, and other "third world" countries are the problem.

The US should suspend any further environmental laws that could hurt "us" until the Chinas of the world have similar levels of environmental protection to what we currently have.

ultrarunnerI hate to hear you are going to have hardship because of a lack of common sense of your leaders. I have heard that there is a pollution problem in California but that 1/4 of the pollution is drifting in from overseas. Is your legislators doing anything to stop that? If they are not seems like that would be a good place to start and let their citizens live.

I believe TOY that the percentage is higher from what I have read. As much as 50%. Are businesses still leaving Calif.? I read that the Governator wants to now impose a 10% tax on all veternarian bills for pets. Seems that Calif. has the highest percentage of pet owners in America, and this is one plan to close the $23 BILLION dollar short fall in the state budget. In addition to this shortfall, the prison system is sueing the state for $8 BILLION dollars, claiming that inmates aren't being treated properly, and that their health care in prison is lacking.

I'm all for progress and improvement... I do have a problem with legislation that is retro-active or after the fact.

There is a little mom and pop fireplace store that's been in business for at least 30 years. They sell and install and are very conscientious. They and all the other like them have been legislated out of business because of the increasing "No Burn" nights.

The irony is that low emitting stoves and catalyst equipped stoves were sold and advertised as OK to use. The shop has many upset customers that bought understanding this to be the case.

Citing it would be impractical to police who was in compliance with an approved stove and who was not, the Air Board just made a blanket ordinance that outlaws the use of all wood burning stoves and inserts during a spare the air event.

All I know is all of the rules cost everyday people dearly. Tree service companies and wood lots are also closing because of lack of demand and the high cost to dispose of wood at local landfill.

All gas and diesel powered equipment is at risk... The very large companies are selling their fleets out of state and the small family owned firms are often forced to throw in the towel.

It's been a disappointment for me at least... I've always considered myself a good steward of the land.

The Gov is getting lots of favorable press overseas for having the courage to buck Washington and make CA green. I just want to know who is getting all the green?

It's sad, but I guess not surprising. One of these days they will go to far, but I fear they are just at the early stages of passing laws that blame everyone else for something that's not even a problem. Glen Beck said that the number of people who want to split from the union has doubled in the last few years. It's a number that is on the increase.

Hope you don't have to sell your dozer. Guess if it comes to that, the farther away from that you go to sell it, the better the price you'll get. There's going to be ALLOT of equipment coming up for sale on top of everything that's out there right now!!!

I've decided to hang onto it as long as possible... it's just too useful and I don't run it often. From what I understand, it's business and fleets getting the most scrutiny.

There is already lots of heavy equipment going out of state. PG&E (Utility Company) is selling off older equipment by sending it out of state... maybe some good buys coming your way?

There is two sides to this equation. It's too late to be concerned about going too far we are already there. We need a clear thinking strategist to bring us back. I read in an automotive magazine [muscle car] but they said that they tested some of the old cars which had been kept up and they said that these cars didn't pollute any more than the new cars did.
