cab for 2910

Got my new Sim's cab recently. Fits well, good visability, lotsa room inside cab. I had to remove the rear glass (6 bolts) to use the BH (I'm 6'2" and had the BH seat all the way extended and it did contact the glass.) It has a heater for these cold MN. winters. It came with the fuse box and wiring. Very good color match. Tinted windshield. Electric wipers. I'm happy with it. It is what I need and want and not suited for everyone.

Thanks very much for your post. I've been researching several cabs for my JD790 and it seems Sim's has the best combination of features and price Sims Cab for JD790.

Can you tell us about the installation of the cab, cab heater and electric? Also did you purchase directly from Sims or via a dealer? Also, why would it not be suitable for everyone?

The cab was part of my original purchase package. It came from the dealer. It was also dealer installed. It is mainly 5 steel panels (fairly heavy steel) all bolted together. The heater is mounted to the front panel, below the windshield glass and to the left of the steering wheel, and it's pretty much out of the way. Two heater hoses come from the engine compartment to the heater and they have shut-off valves inline with a drain petcock. Two adjustable louvers to direct the air flow. Most of the wiring harness is concealed within the cab structure itself. There is an electical control panel with fuses overhead, within easy reach, for lights and heater. The front wiper has the switch right on the motor. I wanted a cab because I live in a cold climate and plan on using this machine all winter (even though it has it's own stall in the heated garage). A lot of posters here live in a less harsh climate and really have no need for this additional expense. We are having 85º weather in October, but I KNOW we will get cold soon.

Nice looking rig. Do have the folding ROPS on your tractor?

I guess my real question is: How high is the tractor with the cab? Will it fit under a standard 7' high garage door?

I have to fold my ROPS to get my B2910 into the garage. Before I had the backhoe mounted, I had the standard ROPS and I could drive that into the garage with a few inches to spare. I might be interested in a cab sometime IF it will fit into the garage.

I think it's 82", if I remember right. It's at my mothers house, which is next door to our new house, so I can't just walk outside and measure it. The cab was put on while I was on a fishing trip and the dealer has a folding ROPS for it, just hasn't installed it yet. I had 8' doors put in my new garage, just to make sure I had clearance. I really believe you would be in trouble with a 7' door. What tires do you have?

I have R4's on my B2910, just like yours. I figured it's going to be real close. Fortunately, I'm not outside on my tractor too much in the winter...only for occasional snow removal, so I can live without the cab. But it sure does make the tractor look "beefier".

82" would technically fit under the door, but wouldn't leave much room for error if the door didn't quite make it all the way up.

Does the cab require the ROPS and can the cab be installed without the ROPS on the tractor??

I was just talking to my dealer today about a cab for my 2910.
It said that he prefered the Sims soft cab over the Curtis soft cab. Both steel cabs were of good quality but he had a lot of problems with Curtis because about half the time some parts were missing.

A ROPS is still required for safety. Even the all-steel cab is not a substitute for the factory ROPS. The picture of my tractor does show the wrong ROPS. I had the rigid ROPS in the pic, not the folding. The folding is about 6" taller.

Congrats - the cab looks great. I just traded in my B7500 for a new B2910 with, among other things, a Curtis Cab. I also am very pleased. Curtis is very high quality fit and finish, etc., and I got it with a heater (with multiple louvres for directing the air and 2 fan speeds), with halogen lights front and back, and with an overhead console that has a bank of switches, light, defroster and ventilation blowers, and a radio/CD player. Have only driven it around for one weekend so far.

Just wondering since you've made no mention about having A/C, I assume that the doors can be removed for summertime use? Or do you take the entire cab off and then re-install before cold weather again? Even with the doors off, couldn't it get awfully warm behind the glass during the summer? Can you add some kind of fan?

If you don't mind my asking, what does a cab like that go for?

my heater was plumbed withshut-off valves and bypass so i can run the fan in the summer. doors are quickly and easily removed. my unit was in the neighborhood of $2500 installed, all inclusive.

Good looking cab....I have a sims on my bx2200 and like it very much with one minor exception. The heater is mounted on the rear panel behind the seat. The hot air blows by you and provides an even warmth. That's the good news, the bad news is that the heater hoses are run underneath the tractor. So far I have sliced thru them twice. Once when the hoses were cut by the HST cooling fan and the secondly when I was mowing with the MMM in the full up position. I have now wired tied them high enough to stay out of harms way.
In retrospect I wish the heater was on the front panel like curtis. Guess you chalk that up to live and learn!
Other than that the Sims is great fit and finish. I had the defroster fan installed at the suggestion of the dealer because he said the the moisture that collects on the windshield is a real pain
