I have two questions about my 2003/2004 John Deere 5205 tractor.

First question regards the clutch. When I am shifting up using the clutch it is smooth and no grinding, however, when I want to shift down say from B-3 to B-2 or anything in between B-1 - B-4 I have to come to a complete stop and wait for a few seconds before the grinding stops and I can shift. Could it be a bad clutch, or are J.D's just like this?

My second question is about my open station. Is there a way to convert it to a cab? It is hotter than heck now and I have a lot of work that needs to be done and I just can't do any of it because of the heat. Any ideas?

Not a bad clutch. It is spelled out in the specs for the 5205, and the following is from the operators manual.

Well that's a bummer. How about a cab? Are they possible?

Anything is possible if you're willing to spend the money required. Do a Google for "Tractor Cab" and see what you find. I think Sims makes a cab for your Deere. I also think you're looking at about $5000 plus any options you want (and installation costs, unless you do it yourself).

Holy **** that's a third the cost of the tractor itself! Haha. I have a radio already so I guess if I just get a canopy I could call it a cab

All kidding aside a canopy can make a big difference in your comfort, particularly in low humidity areas.

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry, haven't been on for a few days. Do you have any recommendations or a model number for what I should be looking for? Is it possible to get one with forward facing lights on it? It's hard to see at night with the bucket blocking the headlights.

I am sure you can buy a canopy to add to your rops from the dealer, best way to go imo. I have one with amber lights connected to the flasher on my 820. I am sure you could add some work lights of some sort to aid in night time use.
