Bypass filter on compact tractor?

I've been thinking of putting a bypass filter on my Cub Cadet 7532. It's a 3 cylinder turbo Mitsubishi engine. Will it help the engine last longer? Is it worth the money? I'd like to hear other peoples opinions about this!!

Do you mean the super high filtration filters that only pull a little bit of oil and filter the heck out of it in addition to the regular full flow oil filter? I know amsoil makes a bypass filter system.

I had a bypass filter on an early SAAB 900. I loved it and did it just for fun.

Now, I am older and wiser. Bypass filter just too much work. For the time and money, simply change the filter and oil more often.

If memory serves me right, my TN wants oil and filter every 300 hours. What I plan on doing (since it will take me 2 or more years to hit 300) is simply drain my summer oil (15-40) and replace it with winter oil. I will not change the filter. Then, in the summer, do the same thing and use my summer weight. Changing the oil takes 10 minutes. Installing the bypass filter took me a day. And I was always worried about a leak.

How much is the filter? If it is realitively cheap.. I'd change it each year / each oil change... I'd hate to loose an engine due to a 14$ filter.

( Just my opinion... and it's taking into account 'extreme' possibilities.. in most cases what you suggest would probably be ok.. etc.. just not something I would choose to do.. etc)

Unless you rack up many hundreds or thousands of hours a year on your tractor, I would not spend the money, change oil once or twice a year and you should be fine.

Good advice, I just don't use the tractor enough to get to 300 hours for either the filter or oil. I change the oil and not the filter in Fall simply to get the improved flow of the thinner oil. The filter has all of 50-90 hours (a third of it's life). I am sure if I lived in texas of Florida, then I would not have to bother with even changing the oil. But in Wisconsin, it can't get real cold (can you say zero?) and 15-40 is probably to thick for zero degrees.

Just use a quality synthetic oil, and a new filter, and forget about the winter/summer swap. As we get older we usually make more money, and have less time...........

No, forget the bypass filter. It won't do anything for you that regular oil changes won't. It will also slightly reduce the oil pressure.

Thinner oil? Seems like the old oil is usually thinner due to micro amounts of fuel contamination that occour.
