I have the 445 mower with the safety switch the shuts the mowing deck off if you try to back up without pulling up on the yellow pto switch.. Does anyone know how to bypass this so I can just back up while mowing without the hassle? I know this is a safety item but it is a pain in the a--. Thanks.

I have the 445 ztrac too but I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you want to bak up while mowing? Mine is a 2009 and I can do that.

Mine is not a ztrac. It is a 2000 lawn tractor. All wheel steer.

Not sure how to find the correct part #, check with dealer maybe. Some of the older versions allowed operation in reverse. I had a 99 that had that problem. Currently have a 96 and no problem.

I have a 2001 and it mows in reverse. The sad part is that I cannot remember what, or if, I did anything to make it do it. My memory is not that bad, its the recall part that is starting not to work......

It should be an easy find. The PTO stich must send a positive signal to something to allow it to over ride the shutoff. Jumper that wire and you are in business.

It's call a RIO switch I call it a PITA switch. I f you remove the seat and rear fender 4 bolts and you will need to remove both pedals 4 more bolts and mounted to the frame rail below you reverse pedal there is a switch and a plug you can't just disconnect it, it is part of the circuit you need to jump the switch with a small piece of wire. Tape it up and wire tye it down. Some people just move the switch out of the way of the pedal. If you blow snow it must go.
This is a taboo subject on other tractor forums so be careful not to back over anything when you bypass the switch.

Just crawl under when you have the mower deck removed, and you will see the switch that needs to be disconnected (jumpered). Not necessary to remove the rear fender and pedals, unless desired.
Easy to track it down by moving the reverse pedal.
Some dealers feel they have to put these safety switches back in working order if they have your tractor in their shop. Claim (or their insurance dictates) they could be held liable if they don't do this and something happens. So ask, and if so, do that chore so you don't get charged for it.

The other "fix" I did was add some height to the reverse pedal, so going in reverse wasn't so slow.

The forward and reverse pedals are connected to each other, as you know. So when you use reverse, you and lift up on the forward pedal with your foot and it will go the same speed in reverse as it will forward.

On the tractor I have now no way you can see it looking under tractor they put the switch in the u-channel of the frame rail. Maybe on some models you can see it.
