It seems I've got a lot of work on both my daughters place and mine. Any experience with chippers? Recommendations on brand? Approx what $ do these run?
You might consider a stand alone chipper/shredder. I, too, do work at my place (3 acres) and the Kids' places. The MacKissic complany makes several as well as PTO driven models. My reasoning for the model SC1650HTE that I bought is that I can drive to their places and do some work without loading the tractor etc. After two years ownership it has been efficient and adequate for storm clean up and general yard work. Look at MacKissic Inc.. Limbs and logs greater than 3-4 inches diameter are chainsawed and used for firewood or bonfires.
I have a bearcat 554 chipper shredder. I bought it used and really like it. I am glad that I have the chipper as well as shredder functions. Leafy stuff goes through the shredder better than the chipper. The unit has 5 inch capacity and my B2320 handle is pretty well, I usally burn anything over 4 inch, but the tractor will handle 5 inch, you just have to feed a little slower depending on the wood to keep from bogging the tractor down.
