Hello, I have a BX25 that was purchased in 2011 with ~150 hours on it. It recently started to stall out and in doing some research, it appears that it could be a wire, fuel filter, or a blockage in the line. Any recommendations on what to rule out first when inspecting the tractor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the filters are transparent look for signs of water in the fuel. Could the fuel have gelled?

This could be a possibility but it was running fine for about an hour before it started to stall. This also happened to me a couple of days ago so I let it sit then started it up again and it ran for a couple hours after that. I let the tractor run for a couple hours to burn out the fuel just in case it was that reason and replaced it with new fuel and it started again today but today it is just stalling out. How can I quickly check if it gelled? Should I put it in the garage to let it warm up?

Warming up will help if some water is freezing in the lines. Gelling or frozen water would plug up your filters. It may be the filters are plugged.

I did some research online and asked the dealer and it doesn't seem to hard to replace. Any insight/tricks on changing or unglogging the filter?

It usually the rear filter, its fairly small and an opaque white thing. Don't get it confused with the lift pump, which is a metal silver unit, but about the same size. The only tip I have is just figure you are going to get fuel all over your arm. I usually just have the new one handy and jam it on quick and hook it up.

Thanks for the info. The weather warmed up and I got it to run and it seems to be fine for now. Is there something I can put in the fuel to help with moisture or something I can do to avoid this all together? I will be picking up the fuel filters and changing them in the new future.

I've had the same problem off and on since I owned my BX. I finally gave up and put on a Racor fuel filter. If you do a search, you can find some threads on adding one. I put it off several years and finally gave up and installed one. I had the same problem you describe and it happened to me about 3 or 4 times. I'd pull the rear filter and even cut it open a couple of times. You couldn't blow air threw the thing it was so plugged up but when you cut it open, it didn't look that bad. It always happened to me in the winter. In my opinion the factory filters are inadequate for a diesel engine.

For additive I use Howes or Power Service, but they didn't help with my problem of the rear filter plugging.

Just went through this yesterday on my BX1500, long story short I replaced both fuel filters, thawed the fuel lines from the tank forward with heat gun, as it was frozen up with milky water in the lines between the tank and the pump. I let the bottom of the tank drain out into a bucket before putting it all back together. I pumped fuel through the pump to flush it out before connecting line to the filter. I'll add in it was a blast laying on my frozen icy driveway with snow starting to come down before the storm. I had used the tractor Sunday without issue.
