Man I have a learning curve that is steep mountain!

I see the hoses on my BX25 are labeled w/ this;

4STARFLEX 3000 1/4" WP 3000 PSI SAE 100 R17 2Q 2010 W17A (s)

and hard to see the larger hose but I do see a 3/8" so I assme it is;

4STARFLEX 3000 3/8" WP 3000 PSI SAE 100 R17 2Q 2010 W17A (s)

My question is this, when a guy walks into the tractor store will call what does he ask for? There has to be a short term like;

Give me 10' of 1/4" 2 wire hose. BUT I do not know if this stock hose has any wire!

Can someone educate me please?

I see at Discount Hoses (DH) that this stock hose will not accept reuseable fittings, or none are made for it.
So a guy is forced to buy from the stealer or buy a crimping machine right? Is there a crimper that uses a small hydraulic pump, so I can make my own hoses?
here is my pump(s);

Do I even want this stock type hose? Is it junk? Should I not worry and just keep it all the same hose on the machine, IE Stock?

"IF" I have to go w/, or want to go w/ reuseable fittings and hose are there any recomendations as to hose type and fitting manufacturer?

Man a lot of q's I know but enquiring minds need to know! :cool:

Thanx in ADVANCE!

What are you hoping to do with these new hoses? I would probably just go to Tractor Supply and get a premade 1/4" hose there if I needed to replace one on our B or BX,but I wouldn't replace one until it broke or was noticeably worn/chafed.

Most auto parts stores can make any hose you need...
Industrial supply places can make custom hoses for a little less...

There are great "online" suppliers that can custom make very high quality hoses & ship them anywhere in the states for Less than the cost of standard components...

There is no reason to 'master' hose assembly... I can replace Every hose on my L4200 with loader and 3 aux for Under $200 ... That is less than half the cost of local and about a third the cost at my Kubota dealer... I will likely have to do it again in 15 years... but there is no way I would consider making my own, even if I was given a hose making machine and all the various dies ... it is Not something handy to own... I know 2 people with all the necessary equipment... they will make hoses for the cost of the ends & hose... I can get them made & shipped to me for less... and no additional heartburn.

Find a good online source, there is a great one just north of your state...
Reusable ends are not a good deal ether... they do not have the GPM flow of a good crimp end.

I'd wouldnt worry about what you have now on the BX. You can find a hydraulic shop by looking in the yellow pages. I would just worry about what you are hooking up and get hoses rated for 3000 psi and bring that hydraulic control block/cylinders if not installed yet. Just tell them the length you want and show them the where the fittings will go. A good shop will be able to take a glance and get them made for you on the spot or by next day. Like kenny says, its easier/cheaper to let shop make em. I wouldnt go to tractor supply as they have hoses too big IMHO.

When I was rebuilding the hydraulic cylinder for the homemade splitter, I had no clue what I had, but I had it apart and brought the whole thing to the local shop and they just took measurements with a caliper and wrote down the sizes and grabbed the parts I needed. It was cheap and fast too. :thumbsup:

I don't know what you pump unit is capable of, but I suspect 2200 - 2500 psi. Most hose machines require upwards of 4000. I have a Weatherhead T 460 and it will do a fair job on 1/4 or 3/8 U series fittings on 2 wire hose at 2200, needs more for 1/2 or larger. I have an OTC air over hydraulic pump,supposedly capable of 10,000. Don't know,as I've never gone above 6000 for any hoses I've made. These units sell for $900 to$1200 most places, for the unit alone, and about $100 each for the various size dies. I see some used ones on EBay, with pumps and dies included. I prefer weatherhead over parker hose because parker tends to have larger wrench sizes. A weatherhead 3/8 fitting will take an 11/16 wrench when parker takes a 3/4 and so on. Sometimes in a tight spot,a 7/8 wrench will fit where a 15/16 won't

My days of going to a hose shop in town are long gone. They have
priced themselves out of my business anyway. Also, the ones I went
to never seemed to have any 1/4" hoses, AND some of them refused to
crimp ends on MY new 1/4" hose.

I don't have any desire to make my own hoses either. That includes
the field-applied ends. I can buy pre-made standard length complete hose
assemblies with 2 JIC ends for less than the cost of ONE DIY hose end
alone.

I really like the hoses from SurplusCenter, tho I have bought them from
numerous other internet sellers. The 1/4" hoses are 4500psi and seem
well-made. I recently bought a 15" long 1/2" hose with -10 JICF ends
for under $10. There are so many lengths available that I have bought
a bunch of spares, too.

Except for the most critical places, the need for any custom-made hose
is just not there, IMO.

I am listening intently to everyone and THANK YOU all!

Harry that is awsome information. Indeed most stuff on the BX25 is 11/16' wrenches and they are actually necessary in a few spots. Something to look REAL HARD at it is.

Some years ago, I bought a crimper for a company that I was doing some work for. It ran about $1800 if I remember correctly. You must match fittings to the hose. I don't know of any reputable company that will put a Parker fitting on a Weatherhead hose for instance. The reusable fittings are pretty expensive and are more bulky so I always use crimp ons. As noted above, there are way too many places to buy hoses at a reasonable price to try to make my own.
