OK thx. Just saw his site, and he has lots of 7-footers for sale and for all of them he recommends minimum 30hp. I think I will be able to go slow and easy like you. ??? I guess I'll find out.

I think I'll call them tomorrow, ask what he thinks. Also if he has any 31s parting out. Was interesting to see the value of a rebuilt and ready 41 ($1975).

Lifting the bar up to it's travel position moves the blade with force. It can cut your finger off while you lift the blade.

Good luck with the cutter bar... I agree, I think 7' bar is too much for the size tractor you have. Been thinking about using my dad's mf 31 (I think that's the md #, its a pittman arm mower) on my JD 3005, and am unsure it will handle it. But I have nothing but hillsides so proper weight and ballance is more critical.

Be careful... had the misfortune to have a stray cat hiding in the hayfield years ago... never saw it but sure did hear it after it lost all 4 legs. Heart-renching... for that reason I have carried a pistol with me ever since. Father in law has found meny fawns (baby deer) the same way over the years.

I grew up with running 9' sickle bar mowers with an IH H - about 30 hp. We would cut 4-5 mph in tough grass. 19 hp should handle it fine if you go slow. My 1710 handles my 7' sickle bar with ease power wise.
