Just today attached and tested the brush hog mower. Worked perfect. Drove the BX24 about 500 yards, no problem. Lowered the mower, engaged the PTO. Engine died. Restarted engine over and over and each time engaging the PTO or the HST forward or reverse, the engine dies. This 'behavior' is first time ever on this BX24. Checked the kill switches under the seat and all are attached. Reseated the seat 2-3x. By just barely tapping the HST forward it will crawl forward 5 - 10' and then die. Had to leave it where it lies.

Doesn't make any sense. I've been working the backhoe and driving it almost everyday for the last 3 weeks. Has worked perfectly.

Any ideas? Something loose? Thnx

You were looking in the right area. Your symptoms are typical for a seat switch failure. Bypass the switch temporarily by connecting the 2 wires together.

If you happen to be on an incline, the seat switch may just not be making contact fully.

That is what I would do, those symptoms are not likely be caused by anything other than do seat switch circuit thinking that you are not sitting in the seat.

There are two kill switches under the seat. Plastic housing is black and gray. Wires are yellow. So I cut the wires (two for each plug) and connected the two wires together for each plug (two for the black and two for the gray).

No change - engine still dies when engaging the HST or PTO.

Before I cut the wires, I did unplug both switch houses. And there was no change.
And for the black pressure switch, I had inserted about 1/8" worth of wadding so the switch would sense there was weight pressing on it. No change.

Any other alternatives perhaps?

Im not sure bypassing both will work. I think one is NO the other is NC.

The PTO circuit has an interlock switch behind the left tire. Your problem probably resides there. The bolting mechanism leaves something to be desired. Same with the interlock switch behind the right tire. All these interlock will drive you crazy. You need to get a copy of the Workshop Manual (WSM) to understand and track them all down along with a lot of these type of irritating little things. I make this recommendation a lot, Kubota should send me a royalty check, LOL.

Sounds like joy.
Found a parts manual. I'll have to order the WSM.
May order a new seat switch and see if that does any good first.
thnx.

What is NO and NC please?

NO = normally open, does not conduct electricity until closed.
NC = normally closed, just the opposite of NO.
