I've had my BX24 since this spring. Haven't used the FEL or Backhoe all that much, but figured it must be around the 10 hour mark, so I got a grease gun from TSC and some little tubes of grease. The guy talked my into the small type grease gun - said they held up better. Now my manual says to use EP grease with molybdenum. So I see they have the 14 oz. tubes for about $2.60 but not in these little 3 oz. tubes. He says this is better grease. On the bag it says NLGI NO. 2 Under this is Mystik multi-purpose grease JT6. Outstanding water resistence and extreme pressure protection.
OK, I know nothing about grease or grease guns. The only thing I need to grease is the zerk fittings on my BX24. I don't know how much grease I will go through if I start using the FEL and BH a lot more (which I probably will next year and am really starting to now). There does not seem to be any moly in this grease.
What do I need? Is the small grease gun OK for what I have? Is buying the 3 oz. tubes just rediculous, or will I not use enough to really matter over the course of a year? Anyone know this type of grease they sold me from TSC? Should I take this back and get some other type?
I'm sorry, but I can't just take some salesman's word at TSC. I don't know him and well, he works at TSC. I don't think that grease that's good for wheel bearings is even "better" for the pins on a FEL and BH, or am I wrong?
