I got my BX24 last week on Sat. morning. The 3PH assembly was wrapped in plastic and was put in the FEL. This morning I went out to the garage (haven't had time this week to barely look at anything) to get the stuff to see if I could figure out how to put this thing together (no experience here). I hauled the package into the heated basement so I would have a warm, dry place to work. I cut the plastic off and found a cardboard packing that was obviously soaked and of course frozen solid.

After half an hour I was able to carefully tear the cardboard off the parts. I laid them out on the floor and checked against the part list. I noticed right off the bushings are covered in rust. After all the parts warmed a bit I dried them off and took a better look. Of course a lot of the grey coating around joints is off and there is corrosion there and a lot of other places.

So I wonder if all these parts are going to look like this in a few months of use anyway or if this is something I should be concerned about. I figure this would be the place to ask. Thanks for any advice/info.

Hi JWK1,

Congratulations on the purchase and arrival of your BX24. I recently shopped new tractors also and I made it a point to look at and operate a BX24. Nice little tractor there, They are great.

Regarding your wet packed 3PH kit. It looks like all the dealers are the same in that regard. The BX24 I drove had a wet, snow covered and beat up box in the seat. The salesman retrieved it before I climbed aboard saying at the time what it was. They had left the machine out in the snow and parked it just the way it was shipped and delivered off the truck. I think they package those 3ph kits up and leave that big flat box right on the seat. I don't really think it has done any damage however. Consider it as if this was the first of many battle scars your stout bx24 survives.

No rudeness or condescension intended: You will get whatever you accept.

When I pay for new goods, I expect them to be in pristine, just manufactured condition.

Its kind of like a restaurant; if the restrooms, which the public are allowed to see, are dirty, then what is your reasonable expectation of the areas that the public are not allowed to see.

If that is the visible service and product, that indicates a mentality. If you are willing to accept that level of service and product, there is no impetus for change.

I would use your best judgement - if they look used and like they have been outside for 10 yrs I would complain. If it's superficial rust, then you should be fine, especially if everything else was delivered pretty. After the first 5-10 hrs, you'll never notice it again...

There have been a couple of threads about people complaining about the TPH on their new BX 2200 and the ball ends were so tight that they were hard to hook to implements becaulse of the paint. It was quite a chore to get all the paint from mine and get them loosened up so the balls would rotate, looks like you have a head start, once you wire brush the surface rust off the balls and then you can touch up the grey paint, you'll be way ahead of us guys that had to fight to get the paint off our balls. The paint on the hitches will be dinged up with use pretty soon anyway, I know it's your new baby right now, go out and tear out a few stumps, the pain will subside.

You know I found the same thing....when you have paint on your balls its really a pain to rotate them!......:D

Personally, don't sweat it. After a few hours of good use they will look much worse then they do now!

Sounds like a case of "NTP" or New Tractor Panic. You did the right thing to come to TBN! Just remember there are no problems in life that buying a new larger tractor can't solve! Well, the really big problems may require you to get 3RRL to modify the tractor too! (Inside joke)

Just remember, the "new tractor smell" goes away after the first load of manure....

I always oil my 3pt balls and all turnable linkage points regularly as a rule. It keeps everything smooth and prevents rust. If there is rust on the ball parts now, a couple of hours tractor work will surley rub it off, then time to oil.....and NOT with WD40. The bottom balls are the most important (where they attach to frame) as that is where they get the most grit in them and can cause wear if not addressed.
