bx2350 won't start/hour meter issue

Started my bx2350 earlier today. Changed oil/filter. Ready to mow...
Tractor won't start. Guess I'm NOT ready to mow.
With key in "on" position, I get the oil light. In the glow plug position, I get that light. In the start position, I get nothing.
The other symptom -- Normally, when you put the key in the on position, you get a clicking sound and the hour meter/tachometer goes through some sort of initialization and displays the current hour total. Now it never completes that. The hour meter display just flickers along with the clicking.
Normally, the fuel gauge sweeps up and down and settles on the actual fuel level. That also is not happening now.

Any ideas?

Didn't have a continuity tester, but they all looked good.

Check grounds and battery connections, something loose or dead battery.

Found my multimeter. Battery says 12.46V. Lights work.
There is some missing insulation around a wire going to what I believe is the fuel shut-off solenoid. The wire isn't anywhere near any other metal. So I don't think it is shorting. Would that solenoid prevent the engine from even trying to turn over?

Took it in. Seemed to be a bit low, but "should work." Some charging and more testing... "Replace Battery."
Got something like $56 back on the old battery. New one started the machine right up.
Good news: I can mow. Bad news: No excuse not to mow.

On the D902 engine the solenoid near the governor lever is a keystop solenoid. It is only energized for several seconds when a safety switch in opened or the key is turned off, otherwise it is normally unenergized.
