BX23 Greasing

The shop manual for the BX23 just says to "Inject grease with a hand grease gun". Does this mean a pneumatic grease gun is not recommended? Also - anyone have recommendations on the best grease to use? I picked up some Lucas X-tra - costs twice the average but half the Kubota price. Is there some rocket-science behind Kubota brand?

I would say any grease gun is fine. It is a zerk fitting, nothing new or can't take some pressure! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I use a synthetic grease that conforms to NLGI #2, GC/LB spec's and is moly-fortified.

Kubota grease is nothing new. I think it is an NLGI grease. I thought Kubota grease was around $3.00?

Thanks for the response, Mike. Maybe I need a different Kubota dealer - their price on a Kubota tube of grease is over $8. What brand are you using? I've only found NLG1.

I use Amsoil, not saying it is the best but I use there grease for heavy load (around $4.00). I figure the FEL and BH are high load envir's.

NLGI #2 (GHD) is the preferred choice for medium to high ambient temperatures, sleeve type bushings, high shock loading environments, high water environments, and is the primary choice for wheel bearings.

NLGI #1 (GHB) greases have better mobility and are the preferred choice for colder applications, for automatic lubrication systems with long pumping runs, and for gear box applications (where recommended by manufacturer).

I use the grease that John Deere sells for greasing the rollers on the bulldozer tracks. I figure that if it is good enough to stand up to that type of pressure and abuse, it is good enough for my Kubota which will never see loads like that. Don't remember how much it cost.... bought a case.... life time supply.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think they just assume most people dont have a pneumatic grease gun. I've been using a pneumatic grease gun on my bx-22 since day one. Works fine. I pickup grease at the local Tractor Supply store for a couple bucks a tube.
