Kubota BX2230
I just purchased a used BX2230 and I purchased the items to change the hydraulic oil and filter. I put in 11 quarts as this is what the dealership gave me and the dip stick is still not reading anything on it. Also is there anything else that I need to do on that system besides oil and filter. Tractor didn't come with a book. Looking to purchase one somewhere.

Need more oil until it shows up on the dipstick if you have loader or other hydraulics will take a little more. Fluid is hard to see, I sanded back side of dipstick a little to see fluid other people sometimes ad oil dye. Little late now but behind left rear wheel there is a strainer screen also. Once full let idle a few minutes so the oil filter can get primed and hydro can build charge pressure. Remember there is only one hydraulic pump on BX and first fluid goes to power steering so for 3 point or loader you must run above half throttle. Kubota Super UDT or exact equivalent works best.

Tractor has 2 fuel filters, one by injection pump under hood and one before electric fuel pump under the middle floor board, probably need replacing use only the Kubota filters as other fuel filter I have seen will not block the water properly.

Tractor has 1 grease point for hydro peddle.

If you have loader there are a lot of grease points on that.

Mower deck has greasing on each spindle outer ones in the center middle one to side of casting below gearbox. Idle pulley and pulley pivot. 60 inch deck has a balancer pivot fitting also. Gauge wheels may still have grease fittings, be careful with those as they may pull out of their holes, they are just drivein fittings.

Screen for radiator between dash and radiator to pull out and clean off. Good idea to pull off battery cover/screen below steering wheel and clean that out.

Thanks for the info. I rubbed the dipstick with my finger and it was dry. I will get another quart of oil tomorrow. So the strainer screen can only be taken out and cleaned while the system is drained? I have greased most of the fittings that yu mentioned, but I did not see the one on the hydro peddle. I will get that one also. No loader on the tractor. Balancer pivot fitting would not take grease. What does this do exactly? Gauge wheels do not have fittings. I will check the radiator screen also.

Have had problems with my balancer not taking grease. You may try lifting the deck up with a jack to grease, if you have a grease joint cleaner it may be worth a try, but I take the deck off once a year to scrape, grease, sharpen and paint, ended up pulling the bolt on my deck and cleaned the hole out and greasing.

The balancer makes one half of the deck go up and one half go down when the gauge wheels hit a high spot and cuts down on the saw tooth you see between the adjacent cuts of the grass.

Also:
Keep the air filter clean and replace once a year. Engine will live longer with clean intake.
Keep the mower deck lubed well during the mowing season.
That radiator screen only catches the coarse stuff and fine particles can build up on the radiator vanes, particularly if mowing is the main use of the tractor. Clean with a gentle spray of water (engine cold), a couple of times during the mowing season and if it begins to run hotter than normal. Make sure temp gauge works and keep an eye on it. All small diesels are susceptible to damage due to overheating.
Avoid taking BX in heavy brush if the mower deck is off. There is a plastic transmission cooling fan on the front of the transaxle that can get broken by twigs, etc.

Go here they have the parts manual, but no owner manual. For now I would load what they have for the owners manual, the BX's are all about the same when it comes to filters and est.

When adding oil to the tranny, go in small quantities and keep checking so you don't over fill.

I'd drain and replace the gear oil in mower deck with synthetic also.

Lhinnen,

Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll e-mail you a PDF copy of the workshop manual for a BX2350 that I have. It may not be the EXACT one you want, but is ill be close enough to help you with maintenance and repairs.

I think you will find, like I did, that you will run out of traction before you run out of power. The BX is very tough for its size.

Just purchase a BX2230 with 550 hours, so I'm beefy up on maintenance. Be here since 2007 and this forum is a great resource. Could you please email email me the shop manual? Thanks Joe Scotti.... joesco0918@gmail.com

Much appreciate it!
