Rake BX2230 AND YORK RAKE

has anyone used a landscape rack on a scut (kubota bx2230)?
if so,was it a full size rack or one made specially for sub compacts? my dealer has a woods brand estate series 5ft for a scut for $575 and tractor supply has a king kutter 6ft for a fullsize tractor for $417. will my scut be able to left the bigger rake. thanks for your help

edbx, I purchased a Woods Estate Series RBC60 5' landscape rake today for my sub-cut, Cub Cadet 5234D. I looked at the RB72 6' standard size rake as well. While my tractor. as well as yours could use the 6' rake the 5' is designed especially for a sub-cut. I used it as soon as I got it home to smooth out some dirt and gravel and it worked very well. The 5' foot is designed so a sub-cut can get it off the ground far enough, the tines are shorter than the full size Woods RB Series. I bought the RBC60 rake at a Kubota dealer, the saleman said this is the rake he recommends to his BX customers.

The rake is well built and even has a great paint job and comes with a parking stand. I also looked at the King Kutter XB series 5' rake at TSC. It would have done just as good a job as the Woods but it was $417. I bought the Woods for $425 with better paint and a parking stand. No brainer. I was quoted prices as high as $500 and as low as $399, but that one got sold before I could get there.

VIKING65 , thanks for the help. The rake you bought is the same one my dealer recommended to me. I would definitely go with the Woods RBC60 if I could get it for $425 but my dealer wants $575 for it. I guess I need to shop around some more.

edbx, do some shopping around. I got 4 different prices on the LRC60 Estate Series rake (RBC60 is the Estate Series rear blade). Try the dealer locator on: http://www.woodsonline.com/

if you need a rear blade the Woods RB60 works great on my sub-cut. Oh, the 6' rake I referred to earlier was the LR72.

I run a 5' rake on my bx with no trouble at all. I'm sure it would lift a 6' rake with no problem, however, I have just enough clearance with the 5' to rotate it to the backwards position for pushing. There are some mods to the 3point lift arms that can be done to get more clearance. I think henro had a post on it quite a while back. If you get a rake and are going to use it for smoothing out gravel and dirt, you will be happier if you get the guage wheels with it. I used mine for about 6 months before the wheels and now with the wheels I can't beleive I waited so long to get them. They make all the difference in the world

Have you look at the Midwest landscape rake? http://tinyurl.com/5uoqz I was looking at a Woods also and the pricing was just horrible. I love Woods gear but the prices are a bit extreme. I have some Midwest attachments and the quality and finish is first class. Its worth taking a look at them.

edbx2230, I got a Woods Estate Series rake about a month ago for $465. It was more than I wanted to spend (actually it was less than I did spend 'cuz I ended up getting the gage wheels also, for about $200 more), but KK XB was about $420 and despite what their literature says, I was told there are no matching gage wheels available. I really wanted something that was designed for BX-sized tractors. So far, I like it. I intend to have / use it a long time!

Attached is a photo of a KK 6' rake on the back of my BX2200.

It would not swing around initially because the 3PH would not lift hige enough for the end of the rake to clear the ground. I made the simple modification of drilling two new holes in the lower clevis ends of the lift rods, about 1.25 inches higher than the standard holes, to get more lift.

As you can see in the photo, there is enough clearance to swing the rake around now, when the 3PH is full up.

I have four loaded bar tires on the BX now, but no loader. The rake works pretty well, but it is not too difficult to get hung up on something and find myself with wheels spinning and not moving.

But for easy tasks like smoothing dirt/gravel/crushed stone I am pretty satisfied with the 6' rake on the back of the BX. Especially if I have my gage wheels on...

There have been a couple threads in the past with photos showing how people here have made the modification to the lift rod ends that I mentioned. It is quite simple to do.

Another option that adds lift height are the Pat's Easy Change links - they are a breeze to use if you switch between 3ph attachments often, and added 4-6" of clearance height to my rear blade and rake.

I have a 6' Midwest rake, and added gauge wheels this fall because the 6' model is borderline too big for a subcompact (can take too big of a bite without the wheels if you're not careful). The gauge wheels made a huge difference and make raking much, much easier, so I'd say you could get away with a 5' rake with no wheels, or a 6' rake with wheels with your BX.

Take a look at my Webshots pics if you want to see what the 6' Midwest rake looks like without the wheels (I need to add a new pic now that it has the wheels). We haven't hooked up my rake to my neighbor's BX22 yet, but he does plan on using it some this spring.

I learned much from this thread. I just bought the Woods estate rake. I figured the Woods would be too much money. When I went shopping this morning. TSC told me $415 for the KK XB rake. The wheels would be at least two weeks to order and arrive, and I would have to pay $175 for the wheels and $25 shipping. The rake was in rough condition for a new unit, but they would not give any discount.
I went to a local dealer. They sold me a Woods for $450, with the wheels for $200 additional. They also will take my 6' Leinbach rake in trade for $300! Only bad part is I'll have to wait 1-2 weeks for delivery, as they had sold their last in-stock unit.
