Re: BX2200 won\'t be used all winter - precautions?
Take the tension of the mower belt. Put in a fuel stabilizer. Run it every few weeks if you can just to warm it up and move the fluids. Keep an eye out for mice in the filter or elsewhere.
That is what I would do. Tricle chrger on the battery wouldn't hurt. Block heater wouldn't hurt. I probably wouldn't do those things though.
Re: BX2200 won\'t be used all winter - precautions?
If you use the block heater or a trickle charger on the battery, you are inviting the mice to make their new home where it is warm. I would put out plenty of rat & mouse poison to keep them away. Also if you leave the hood up, the mice don't like to make nests where the nest is visible so that eliminates the top of the engine. Fuel stabilizer is all that you will need..... the battery will be fine till spring as will the rest of the tractor. 4 - 6 months of sitting isn't going to hurt anything. Dampness is the enemy that you have to watch for... Try to keep some ventilation in the garage. If you use the garage on a daily basis, this isn't a problem for you.
Re: BX2200 won\'t be used all winter - precautions?
I can't disagree about the heat being inviting to a mouse, but I did want to mention that last year I put mouse poison in the shed and the buggers were actually moving it and piled it up on top of my radiator. I reccomend traps. Sticky ones are pretty good but may not work in extreme cold. Try spring traps with the fake cheese bait.
Re: BX2200 won\'t be used all winter - precautions?
I have also learned that they will remove the poison and put it in hiding places.... this is a hidden benefit because when the original set of mice have died, the ones that come after them will find the food and will also be killed... a little poison goes a long way............
Re: BX2200 won\'t be used all winter - precautions?
That is the nice thing about DeCon.... it won't hurt a cat or dog even if they eat it... it only works on small mammals such as mice, rats, squirrels, & chipmunks.... A dog or cat will just throw up the stuff or it will pass harmlessly through their bodies.... I learned this from my vet after my dog got into some... Now I use bait traps that the dog can't get into....
