Well, here I am very close to making the plunge into the BX world. I am a little unsettled on the attachments, however. I am going with the BX2200 w/ FEL and 60 inch however I would like to get one additional attachment for plowing my drive. I have 200 feet of drive and it is all flat and I live right on a main road. My dealer has given me three choices. 1) A 5' Rear Blade -- which he tells me is quite versatile w/ 360 rotation and when used with the FEL makes for a nice package for the deep snow and the rear blade can be used for grading. This option is the least expensive however the thought of going backwards does not thrill me. I do want to do limited grading on my 2 acres but was thinking bax scrapper in the future 2) The Kubota "Quick Hitch" and "Fixed" 54 inch Front Blade. This package is more than twice the cost of the rear, provides only a manual adjustment when I need to turn the blade and from what I have been told the blade moves up or down only 4-6 inches. The upshot here is I get to operate in a forward direction but alas no FEL. 3) Or, he suggested a fully integrated blade by a company called "Curtis." This thing does it all, it attaches to the loader arms, your able to turn the blade in all directions and lift it as high as you could a FEL. It is designed mainly for snow plowing but, gives little to no grading capability. Oh yeah the cost for the Curtis was about 6X of the rear blade and 2.5x the Kubota fixed front blade. Any suggestions and/or anyone using the Kubota Front Blade set-up?

When a FEL is used on the BX for odd, simple tasks does a weight box really need to be used?

Anyone have a clue what is going to happen to the low 6.75% rate Kubota is offering untill 4/30? Down? Up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

Can't help with the attachment questions (yet) but was told on Tuesday (I was pricing a BX) that the their is a 5.99% rate. I don't know if it requires more downpayment/shorter terms, etc.. but it may be worth inquiring about it with your dealer.

Jim,

What about option 4? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Does the BX series not have a Kubota hydraulic front blade that allows for positioning up/down right/left? Pretty sure there is such an animal for the B series. Not sure how the cost would stack up to the Curtis blade if Kubota has one....may be worth a check.

I'm not sure where you live, but a rear blade is an inexpensive way to clear snow nicely in Lower Michigan where we don't get tons of snow. Thats what I use, and you get used to driving in reverse/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

How much were you quoted for the 5' rear blade?

And don't forget to register when you get a chance.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the feedback. I was quoted $250.00 for the rear blade. Also, I found out Curtis does not have a model which will adapt to the BX series. I am intrigued however on one of the postings which believes there maybe a Kubota front blade which does right and left positioning. I would think there has to be some manufacture out there which makes a blade that should be adaptable to the BX FEL arms, no? I live in CT and our snow falls are minimal however just gotta get over the reverse thing.

I overlooked it in my first reply also....you should use some kind of rear ballast when doing any front loader work, whether it be an implement or something homemade.

Good Luck/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Jim,

I have the BX with FEL and rear blade. I use them both to remove snow, but I don't use the rear blade in reverse. I drive forward, with the blade facing forward. As long as it isn't too deep, it isn't a problem. If it is deep (more than 6") I use the FEL to clear anything over that, drive thru the rest and let the blade clean up as I drive. Works VERY nice, especially if your drive is paved. If it isn't, and you have gravel, you may not like using the rear blade at all, unless it has check wheels, as it tends to dig into the gravel. In that case, I use the FEL, angling the front of the bucket up so as to ride above the surface a couple of inches and leave the rear blade up.

In any case, you'll have a great tool to do all sorts of things. I love the BX..... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks Charliebrn for the reply. I appreciate your experiences with the less than 6" rule and going forward. That info will help in my selection process. I was also looking for some feedback on how effective a Kubota front blade on a BX is or is there a blade available which simply attaches to the FEL arms. I like the idea of being able to plow and raise the blade up to push piled snow if it occurs. Granted the combination of the rear blade and FEL will do the same thing I would guess.

FYI Guys, just got off the phone with Kubota. They have released a Hydraulically Operated Front Blade for the BX. Three cylinders -- up / down and side to side - Part # BX2763.

MONDEJ: can only give u my experince on b2400. for moving snow(which we have tons of) i like the fel and rear blade as ballast, if the snow is light i use rear blade and drive forward, moving snow in a windorw, if it is heavy i use fel to clear and then rear blade to clean up. it all depends on amt. of snow TYPE OF SNOW. light and fluffy or wet and heavy? i personally like the fel and rear blade set up. if u put front blade on then u have done away with your fel. u know your conditions best. just my 2 cents.
