Kubota BX 2200
Hi,

I have a 2001 BX2200. I've had it for 5 or so years and I have been putting 100+ hours a year on it. Lately, it seems to be "weak" while bushhoging and turning uphill. When I press the gas it seems to struggle and the tractor makes this whinning noise until it gets going again.

This only really happens if going uphill. On a straight away or downhill I don't hear/feel that issue.

Hydraulic and engine oil levels are all good. I use the Kubota SuperHDT for the hydraulic oil.

I've been using this 4 foot bushhog for a few years now. Tractor doesn't seem to struggle when nothing is attached.

Is the transmission slipping or having issues?

Thanks,

Nick,

Are you in high range or low range? Any kind of steeper hill you should be in low range.

Also, the pedal isn't a gas pedal, it control the hydro stat. It is instinctive to push down harder when going up a hill but this is wrong. That gears the hydrostat up. You should back off the pedal some going up a hill.

Keep in turtle and wide open throttle and then say it does it or not. That's how it should be ran doing what you describe.

When was the last time the fuel filters were changed?

I have same model BX, last time I had that trouble was dirty fuel filter. You can also check for sticks in you hst pedal linkage.

Agreed. Same thing with me. It was lacking power and cutting out going up a steep hill. Replaced the two fuel filters and issue gone.

Hi Nick, welcome to TBN. Dodgeman has figured out your most likely problem. It ain't a gas pedal on the floor, that pedal controls the HST transmission. The more you push, the higher the gear. When you're on a hill, pulling something heavy or doing anything that works the engine hard, back off the pedal. That's like dropping into a lower gear.

About that hand throttle next to the steering wheel, which does control engine speed. Make sure you crank that little diesel up. It's made to run wide open all day long without any harm, and you need to wind it up a good ways to get enough hydraulic flow.

Try those things before you break out your tools or take it to a mechanic. That said, your BX may need some TLC, being that it has a few years on it. The most common thing is fuel filters (yes, both of them) that need to be changed every few hundred hours, and keeping a clean air filter on it.

I know it's obvious but make sure the brake is off.

I had this happen to me 2 or 3 times when I owned a BX2200 and it was always the fuel filters. Be sure to replace both. They're cheap and easy to do yourself.
