After cutting my yard and washing down the tractor I noticed rust bubbles around the base of the rops bases that are bolted to the rear fenders, has anyone else experienced this problem yet?

Your post made me run out to the garage and look! Thankfully, no.

Strange....I've a fair amount of use on my older BX, and no rust at all. I'd take the rops off, sand it down and repaint it before it spreads...and it will... (Allis Chalmers orange from TSC matches perfectly!)

Hmmm, apparently moisture has been allowed to remain under the ROPs plate. I would mask the affected area of and strip and reprime with epoxy primer and shoot it back with some quality orange. I would reinstall the ROPs with RTV sealant so as to get a solid squeeze out. No more moisture that way. Install the bolts with RTV as well. J

Trescrow has a good point with the RTV. I wonder, do you use the tractor in salt (winter snow plowing)? I do as well. I think that is a little dangerous, but what's a girl to do???? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes. Took delivery of my BX23 about 2 months ago and noticed the rust around some of the ROPS base welds the day it arrived. Also have about a 2" diameter chunk of paint peeling off halfway up the ROPS. It is obvious that my ROPS was not properly preped for painting. Told the dealer & he supplied a can of Kubota grey.

Hmmm, interesting that I'm not the only one who thinks RUST is more prevalent than it should be on these Kubotas! Take a look at the pics in the post about hooking up a work light. Two different tractors, both with rust well started around the welds.

On my L4310, I noticed alot of rust popping up on the fenders due to wear, etc.
I took the fenders off and power wire brushed the rust areas, used rust converter, and painted with the Kubota paint.
It's been several years now and no sign of that rust.

Any place water is trapped will rust--paint or not. Check under your the rubber mat on your floor--- /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Mine is not to bad but enough that I repaired it. My final solution to that will be having the floor done with Line-X. I may have the inner portions of the fenders doen as well where my boots are always kicking them and scuffing the paint.
Like the thread on the MMM and grease. I suggest all BX owners pull the ROPs and rust proof that area. It is a place water will sit between two pieces of metal---that equals RUST.

Egads, there is a chip in my paint on the plate that holds the rod---better sand blast the tractor and repaint before it spreads. I probably want be around much for a while--repainting the tractors will be very time consuming--better get to it. J

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. Metal has to have contact with oxygen to rust. That's why we paint it, or grease it, to keep the air off it.

I seriously do like your Line-X idea. Kubota should do that from the factory instead of that flimsy rubber mat deal.

PS - I have no idea why this came out red. It wasn't intentional on my part. (I'm not MAD at you, ha, ha.) Maybe I got some orange Kubota touch up paint on my keyboard, ha, ha.
