BX2200 hydraulic fluid leak

I have a 2002 BX2200 with 60" MMM with mulching kit. The other day I was just finishing mowing about 1 acre of wet bermuda where the tractor was obviously working pretty hard ( I had to slow down in areas of thick grass so the engine would come back up to speed) when I drove across my driveway and left a trail of hydraulic fluid. I lifted the seat and it looked like the fluid was coming from a little red and gray valve on top of the transmission housing. After the unit cooled it took about 1 pint of fluid to bring the level to the top of the dipstick. Is this something I need to worry about or was it blowing off "steam" so to speak. I normally don't mow when the grass is wet but we've had so much rain here in Oklahoma that I had to take the chance when there was a break for a day or so. Bye the way the tractor only has 165 hours on it.

Hi Pete,

Welcome to the board. There have been 3 other BX2200s recently with hydro leaks (mine included), but none involved this valve (I'm not familiar with the valve). You can do a search in this forum for "BX2200" and "hydro" and "leak" for the last 3 months and you should find those threads. Sorry no one else has replied to you. There are lots of guys on here who are eager to help. I'm sure the reason on one else has replied is that none of them have had this experience with this valve. Good luck.

From the sound of it, you just had it warmed up really good and blew a little out the breather, I don't think there's cause for alarm, just keep an eye on it for a while.

Thanks guys, I've mowed again and it didn't leak anymore. I suspect the transmission got a little hot and the fluid expanded enough to blow out the vent.

Did you look under the tractor and make sure the tranny cooling fan is still intact? It's just plastic so one little stick in the wrong place will take it out. Also, are you mowing full throttle? That will help keep the tranny cool.

I didn't know there was a tranny cooling fan on the BX2200. Where is it located?

The HST cooling fan is at the end of the driveshaft where it attaches to the HST.
