Ballast BX2200 Front Weights

I need information concerning the total amount of weight that comes with the weight kit for the front of the BX2200.

Also I am considering making a grille guard incorporating a device to hang weights on. Has anyone done something similar and if so any pictures would be much appreciated.

Sorry I don't know about the weights but I was considering making or modifying the grill guard to work with the quick hitch front end. Enabling it to incorporate weights for the summer would be a good idea as well.

If you're not concerned about the quick hitch you could easily enough weld a bar of round stock to a plate and bolt to the front like the grill guard. Then get some weight plates from the local superstore and slide them on the bar.

I have yet to really look on how the quick hitch mounts and understand the grill guard must come off in order to incorporate the hitch onto the tractor frame but in your estimation does it seem like a simple modification will allow us to use the grill guard and quick hitch? I just purchased the front hydraulic angle plow and would like to keep the grill guard on.

Jim,

The quick hitch attaches to the front frame. However unlike the grill guard that bolts on the quick hitch uses the MMM front attach pin holes and two screw clamps on the top. Basically you hang the top on and tip the bottom in place and insert the pins and clips, then tighten down the top clamps to snug it up. The extra thickness of the grill guard is in the way and I'll have to check if the sides are wide enough to allow the front hitch to fit between the upright arms.

As for an easy mod I haven't found it yet. Thought about cutting the bottom of the grill guard and twisting 90 degrees to mount to the side of the frame but that didn't seem like an idea option. I will need to look closer at the front mount and see if it could be cut back simply to allow for the grill guard to remain attached. If there are any other ideas I'm open to suggestions.

I hope to have time this weekend to work with the tractor.

Why or when would you need front weights?

I don't really know at this point if I will need front weights or not. Wanted to fab a grill guard/bumper and would try to have some facility on that for weights.

I am planning to get a 4' bush hog next spring. Do you think I would need some front weight for that?

That's a good question. When I was looking for my tractor I could get no satisfactory answer to if I needed front weights or not. I do know if you have the FEL on, front weights are not necessary. My question was if the FEL frame that remains on the tractor was heavy enough to negate the need for the weights. I would also think it depends on exactly which rear implement you are running and even what kind of terrain you have. I decided to wait , at the suggestion of the dealer, and see if they were necessary since it was no big deal to add them later. That front weight set is a bit on the pricey side afterall. To this point I havn't seen a need for them.

As far as fitting it on the BX, doesn't Kubota offer a grill guard which will also take front weights. I would be nice if someone with that setup could post a picture. I'm sure it's ridiculously expensive for what it is and making one would be the better route.
