I may be totally off here - BUT I dont think it can be 'flooding', isnt that for a something with a carb??

My first thought would be that the glow plugs/pre heaters are not working correctly (ie allowing the air to warm up enough for it to fire).. This could be the glow plugs/pre heaters themselves - or the battery..

As far as fuel goes - buy from a place with quick turn over.. Most (if not all) service stations start selling a winter blend of fuel in Oct/Nov - BUT i always added some sort of anti-gel to my fuel (white power service or Howes diesel treatment)

Good luck

ok - first I don't think you can "flood" a diesel. Second, you mentioned it doesnt matter if it was warm or cold out so I don't think its gelling issue. If temps are below 20 degrees F then you might have gelling, but fresh winter blend diesel with an antigelling additive will take care of that. Somehow I dont think its your fuel.

I'd would replace both fuel filters on your BX first before doing anything else. filters is easy and cheapest thing to do. While you are at it- check fuel flow from tank to first filter. Might be plugged tank. If problem still persists, then check your glow plugs- chances are the glow plugs are bad.

Does the orange glow plug light come on when you turn the key? Last year my glow plugs weren't working because of a bad connection at the fuse. I had the same symptoms you have. Lots of coughing and starter wear to get started. I cleaned up the contacts and now it starts great. Funny how these engines like a little glow plug, even in the summer.

If it's not the glow plugs, I would check the filters. With the biodiesel and issues we have been having with fuel, filters don't seem to last as long as they used to. Good idea to use a high quality fuel.
