Hello,

How does the BX2200 with 60in deck do in wet grass? I know the sales brochure sales it cuts it with no problem, but what about discharging? Does everything stick to the underside and require constant cleaning? How fast do you need the throttle when mowing?
Thanks!

My BX2200 has "Plowed Thru" tall (and I mean TALL) wet grass this season without a hitch...the wet grass just blows out of the shoot (60"MMM) without lugging the engine and hasn't clogged or sticked to the mower deck excessively. I set my throttle about 2/3 open. Only complaint is that it has a stiff ride over rough terrain compared to my former Deere lawn tractor but after all the BX is the mother of all sub-compact tractors. You will be impressed. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Why are you cutting wet grass? Of course the deck needs occasional cleaning and the chute can clog in tall wet grass. I have cut through prarie grass taller than that was damp. I rarely run at PTO speed, I ususally mow even tall grass at about 2/3 throttle. Not sure what tractor you had before but if it was something like a Murray or Sears tractor styled mower you have an eye opening experince in store. The BX2200 will go through grass that would stop the biggest 25 horsepower mowers dead in their tracks like a hot knife thoough butter. This is not hyperbole--it is fact, my BX mowing beside a 25 horse Sears unit which I have done--it is like comparing a Corvette to a Chevette. Also, switching gears, another comparison, now my 2410 compared to a 455. Grass that stops the big JD does not stop the 2410, it occasionally bogs it a bit but has never stopped it and that is at considerably higher ground speed. I think you will be happy. J

Tres; those of us who live in the Northeast have unfortunately had to cut wet grass at times this spring. I try not to do this, but it beats letting the grass get 6-8" high and having to spend a day raking up the cuttings.
No complaints on the BX doing this duty; as Tres says, the tractor simply plows through the grass. There is some extra cleaning of the MMM, and I have sharpened blades more this year than most years, but that comes with such such severe work.
By the way, I have followed Tres' advice and have been spraying the MMM with cooking spray after pressure washing. It really helps out.

The BX usually does fine in wet grass. I have had a few times when it has bogged down though and even a couple when it stalled. This was when cutting wet grass around a foot long. The problem is not the grass - it's when I drive back over the windrows from the last pass. Those thick mulched clippings get clogged under the deck and can stall the engine. I have the BX2200 and mow with the deck set at the top (4 inches).

The other problem when mowing long grass is that the front wheels push the grass down and the deck doesn't lift it all back up to cut it. That's going to be a problem for any mid mount mower in long grass though - the only way around that is to use a front mower.

I know I should be cutting the grass more often - and bagging the clippings would take care of this problem - but with the rain in the North East and some personal events this spring that have taken me away from home I just haven't been able to get to it like I should.

The grass is long again right now as I'm putting in a fence and don't want to wrestle the post hole digger off until I'm done. I can't mow with it on as the the mid and rear PTO lift and drop with the same control. Maybe I'll just take the auger off though ... that's slightly less work than the whole setup.

Can't speak to the 60mmm as I have a 54 on my 2200 but nothing, I mean nothing stops the little beast. I have nicks in the blade and broken stones to prove it.
You will enjoy the 2200....remember, you get what you pay for!

I've had both a BX1800 and BX2200 with the 60" MMM and never had them bog in grass that was as high as 2'. Both tractors performed fine, I also ran a 48" King Kutter rotary cutter and a 50" snowblower off both of them with no problem.

My BX2200 w/60"MMM has performed flawlessly in wet grass. As others have stated, the engine doesn't even strain. Of course, you want to take it slow especially if the grass is tall like it has been around here this sprng (Oh I forgot it is summer now. Hard to tell with the seemingly constant rain we have had) Anyway, I do not think you will be disappointed if you have to cut wet grass and you will be ecstatic cutting the dry stuff.

How difficult is it to clean a MMM? I'm riding the fence on which 72 inch mower to buy when I buy my recently decided on 7800. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
