My Virginia lawn has been destroyed by the drought we had this summer, so I've been rennovating it this fall first by using an Overseeder attached to a rental L-3000 series Kubota (my BX was too small to run the Overseeder) and then I wanted to follow up with aerating the 2 acres or so I have of lawn.
I decided to purchase a First Choice aerator rather than renting one, as its something needs to be done twice a year plus I can keep the equipment in better condition vs. rental machinery.
Byrd Tractor in Manassas, VA sold me a First Choice 48" unit for $ 875.00 that easily installed on my BX 3-point hitch. Add (10) solid concrete blocks from Lowe's (@ $ 1.09 each) and we're in business.
Got to tell you, I am IMPRESSED with this attachment. Where my turf was healthy and moist it pulled and ejected plugs like nobody's business. In parts where the earth was rock-hard clay from our drought, it still managed to plug the ground enough so I could overseed in those areas.
The times run smooth on the spindles and have grease fittings to keep them that way. The entire apparatus looks to be solidly made with good welds and heavy gauge steel throughout.
Highly recommended if anyone is in the market for one, and it's not a huge investment as attachment prices go.
