HEH! Quite a thread here!

I had no idea what the extra set of wheels and tires were going to run for the BX22, so I called up MY SELLING DEALER (yeah, the one I bought my tractor from new) which is Byrd Tractor in Mannassas. VA. They came back with the $ 770.00 quote for the tires and wheels combo and that seemed hight to me, so I didn't order. I've made almost all my purchases there including a new Woods PTO chipper that I just picked up from them last month.

Mistake? I dunno. I kind of doubt it. It seems every time I want to purchase an attachment of any kind they're head and shoulders above the rest in price. I prefer to support my local selling dealer, but I do price shop the item around and usually discover they're high. I then go back to the owner (Wayne) with what I found pricewise. After a bit of "gee-whiz, there's no profit left" - they agree to sell it to me matching my lowest quote elsewhere. I don't look for the last nickel in price, and it takes too much time making calls for price comparison. I'd prefer to pay a reasonable price every time without having to fookin' negotiate every swingin' thing.

On the Woods Chipper, they were $ 3,295 until I told them I could go down the road 35 miles and buy it for $ 2,500 in Fredricksburg. Then they came to that price after a bit of "yer takin' the milk from our babie's mouths". I still bought it from them, but I should have gone to the guy down the road who quoted me $ 2,500 on the first phone call.

So whith the AG tires and wheels, I called Art on Tuesday (he posted in this thread) and told him to send me a set at MSRP if he would, at $ 296.00 plus shipping. Not going to go back to Byrd Tractor to try to persuade them down from $ 770.00 and show them the error of their ways. This gets pretty old, and frankly I'm tired of doing it.

I own my own small business selling furniture. I know about margins and costs. Every business is ENTITLED to make a profit and maintain a standard of living for their owners and employees. In most retail operations, MSRP price lists allow for a 35% to 60% Gross Profit Margin for dealers which should be adequate if their business is well-managed. I typically price 10% under MSRP in my business, and manage to do well at the end of every year. So it just makes me crazy when I see outrageous retails and then the customer has to 'negotiate' to a price that arrives at MSRP when all is said and done. Hellva way to run a business.

Forums like TractorByNet are great. They allow us to exchange information quickly and expose some of these outrageous price issues. Ain't the internet great?

Thanks guys!

Wheel assemblies can be ordered from parts or from whole goods. I would be willing to bet that the $300 price is from whole goods. The only problem with ordering from whole goods is that you would have to wait for their next shipment of tractors, loaders, etc to come in.

I use two local dealers. I would say one is mid sized and the other is quite small. The small dealer had 2 sets of BX wheels in stock. BX is a BIG seller (at least around here, and I would dare say all over the USA). If you are a dealer, I think you have an obligation to stock popular items and be aware of pricing issues that would effect your competitivness. My small dealer can quote you (+/- a $20) most parts from memory.

Jerry,

You are correct. When my dealer priced the PARTS, they came to about $700. Then he found a "palletized" version - literally, with all four tires, complete, and mounted which was $320; I had to wait for the shipment which took a week. Now I can switch them at will.

<Sound of Clapping>

The Fed Ex Freight Truck arrived today with my new BX22 AG Kubota Wheels and Tires from Art @ White Farm Supply in New York. $ 296.00 for a set of (4), all brand new!!! (Fed Ex Freight shipping was $ 79.67)

WAY TO GO, ART !!!

I was not going to go back to my local selling dealer and *negotiate* by telling them Art's price. They snooze...they lose.

Now I can go get in the mud.

Thanks again, Art.

Call the local dealer and ask how much it cost to fill the rear tires with beet juice...... then bring in the two new tires and have them filled.... that will make the point about being over priced and you will have the extra weight for better traction....

ABXR8713 Front 18 x 9.5 - 8 Bar $44.00@ = $ 88.00
ABXR8714 Rear 26 x 12.0 - 12 Bar $104.00@ = $208.00
................................................................... $296.00

This is exactly what my dealer quoted me (wheels & tires) and I ordered them. I cannot believe the gouging (sp) going on.

You guys are gonna be p.o.'d, but I ordered a set of bar tires w/rims from my dealer at his cost $222!!!! no shipping charges - along with the 60" MMM $1400 and a Land Pride RB1560 rear blade $275. I think I got a decent price on the BX22 - $15,100?
I think he was worried that I'd go to the 'big town' dealer in Cedar Rapids, IA. My dealer is in Morning Sun, IA - a town of <1000.

I did have to wait for the back blade and extra tires for about a month until the next shipment came in. But, they delivered everything to my house, which is 50 miles away from the dealership. They also offered to come get the tractor for any warranty work if needed. That's good service in my book.

BTW - I LOVE my lil' orange machine!!!!
