A good deal of my mowing involves tight spots. How maneuverable is the BX1860?

Possibly the most agile of any scut in existence. Flat out. It would take 4 wheel steer to improve upon it, but that feature would be more common to a big lawn mower like a Deere X series, than a scut.

Be mindful that, while the BX is quite maneuverable, it is no match for a ZTR mower...

In maneuverability nor than the Kubota F models but the BX is so much more than a mower. I have had BX's for 6 years for mowing plus tractor duties. I bought my first one (a BX2200) to be a lifetime mower and then found out it is so much more than a mower that it's unbelievable.

Please don't get me wrong - the BX machines are WAY more than a mower - and for my purposes, I would take one every day of the week over any other mower. However, if my yard was absolutely full of obstacles, I would be looking at a ZTR for mowing as the BX (nor any other SCUT) doesn't come close.

1*I'd say you are right.
2*Which means you loose all the benefits that a S-cut offers over a lawn mower.
To me it's just not worth it.
A good deal of my mowing involves tight spots.
3*How maneuverable is the BX1860?
3*very.

As much as it pains me, if I was going to get something solely for mowing with absolute certainty I would NEVER use it for anything else, it would not be any of the BX mowers or other SCUTS if I had a lot of obstacles. I would go with a ZTR, 4WS or front deck like the Kubota F Series.

I bought a BX2350 to replace a riding mower. It doesn't turn as sharp, but due to the greater power and slightly wider deck, it cut my mowing time. If all I did was mow, I agree with the others, get a Kubota ZTR diesel. If on the other hand, you want the other atributes of a BX, which in my opinion the end loader is the big advantage and the 3 point hitch, you won't be dissapointed with it as a mower. For my yard, which has hills, the saftey factor of having a ROPS and 4 wheel drive are worth it alone.

Never used a ZTR but I hear they're not too good on hills. Don't think any tractor would be as maneuverable as a ZTR. But, if you're comparing the BX to a garden tractor, it is just as maneuverable except maybe for the ROPS if you have low hanging branches. With the 54" deck, I can maneuver it just as well if not better than my Wheel Horse garden tractor. If you're moving up from a smaller tractor, I think you'd be surprised how good of a mowing machine the 1860, or any BX, is.
