BX upgrade??

The other rotary cutters were light duty jdeere 5' and WOODS 4'. The blades on my present 48" WOODS RC are not that big and as I recall not much thicker or bigger than finish mower blades. This 48" RC does not stall but just does not seem to cut that well.

Ah-ha, I think that's it. The blades on my GearMore 40" heavy duty model are around 9/16" thick and 4" wide. Once they're torqued to speed, there's just too much inertia to stop them. The chassis of the unit is 42", which matches the width between the outside of the tires on the BX, making a nice clean fit when I have to drive between trees, etc.

I cannot presume to tell you what you should do, however in my own case, the BX with MMM is perfect on the turf, the HD rough cutter oblitterates anything, and changing implements is a breeze. If simply changing to a small sized but heavy duty rough cutter does the trick, you could save a ton of money. You might want to check around and see whether anyone has one you can rent or borrow to try it out first. It would just be a shame to spend money for this one reason in upgrading tractors if it's not necessary. Now in my case, of course, if I had the money to upgrade, I could think of about a thousand other reasons why I'd like a bigger tractor.

Yeh, that's a heavy unit Tom. I thought my 48" Bush Hog Squealer was a brute but my blades are only 3/8" x 3". Like yours though, nothing stops it. I used to burn brush (up to 1.5" blue oak, etc.), now I make shallow piles and grind it up with the hog ... makes a lot of noise, throws stuff everywhere and sure is a lot of fun
