For us it doesn't seem to make what difference the brand is when it comes to those switches we just hate Murphy!

It seems that is about 50 percent of what we work on with the different brands we sell on newer equipment.

I'd like to go back about twenty years on this one but then somebody would get hurt and because I got it started I'd get sued because someone didn't remember the page in the owners manual that said not to stick your hand in under the mower deck while running.

As Art says, we have had the same problem with other brands too, not just a Kubota thing.

I've not figured out WHY, yet (will be checking on several of the mentioned items), but what I have found is that the 'clicking' noise isnt' a relay, its the starter gear trying to 'pop out' and engage.

If I can't get it to turn over after a few tries, I can turn everything off and turn the starter gear a bit by hand, then retry. Works good for me, anyway.

I have had the same problem with my bx2660. I found that if I jiggle the pto engagement lever that it will start. Scared me the first few times this happened 'cause I didn't know how I was going to get it back to the shop.

I tried bouncing up and down on the seat, moving the fuel pedal, everything I could think of. I finally got it to go when I messed with the pto engagement lever, and that has worked for me since.

+1. This would happen all the time on my brand new BX2660. I eventually adjusted the switch with the two bolts holding it like others have previous said. All is fine now. :)

The click you are hearing is I believe the fuel shutoff solenoid, and not the starter. I thinks....

Yup ,the click is the FS after the shut-down. There was a thread on here about all the odd noises...

IF the click happens when you twist the key to start, it is the starter relay trying to engage (and the problem ain't safety switches).

IF the click happens a few seconds after you twist the key to off, it is the fuel shut-off solenoid (and the problem is in the starter circuit, which includes the switches).

PS: Lysjones, my machine had your symptoms and it was a shorted battery cell. Just not enough ooomph to engage the bendix unless the flywheel gear was in the goldilocks position.
