When looking at a BX 2200 last year, I noted it did not have a tachometer.

Do the BX 23's now have a tach?

Seemed like a bad idea to save just a few dollars in manufacturing cost on an otherwise very well designed sub-compact tractor.

Quite a few of we 2200 owners installed a tach made by Tiny Tach. Costs about $65. Looks good and easy to install. Search on Tiny Tach and you'll find lots of hits here.

Agree it would be nice if it was built in, but for this price, you can have a working tach.

Can't answer about the new models.

The tach isn't high on the priority list for Kubota and it still isn't available on any of the BX series tractors. The Tiny Tach is well made and easy to install and is the inexpensive solution.

Thanks for the Info:

The service guy at the dealer told me that when using anything on the BX PTO (rear or mid), the throttle should essentially be 3/4 to full open (That was Kubota's intent in the design). I haven't felt like a tach is needed or lacking on the BX, but then I've always run PTO equipment this way (tillers, MM mowers, tedder, sickle bar etc.). I think this is especially true on hydrostatic tractors, where you have infinitely adjustable ground speed.

The only equipment I've used that required the monitoring of a tach was a square baler with a geared tractor. They can be real sensitive to ground speed vs. PTO speed in order to prevent jams.

Someone may think otherwise.

When using my MMM, I never used it with the engine at more than half throttle. It cut fine and I had plenty of power. Just didn't see any need for the additional noise or power. My lawn is quite full and thick and the cut was better than with my old Bolens. What engine speed do others use with their MMM's?? Mine is a 60" MMM.

I mow at 2900 - 3000 RPM (engine speed). That is a little more than 3/4 throttle. About 2400 RPMs PTO speed.

I have a Tiny Tach and I use it all of the time.

I have a tiny tach on my gas motor and it picks up from the spark plug, what does the diesel use for a pickup.

It has a sensor that bolts onto an injector line. No clue how it works, but seems to work just fine.
