I'm posting from Canada(PEI) and we are trading in a 16 yr old Kubota G4200(still flawless) for a BX2200. We have around 8 acres of lawns and 17 uncut acres.

Canadian dollars....$15,500 for the BX2200 plus 60" mower.

We figured the 2200 was worth the $1000 (630 US) more than the 1800....may need the extra HP down the road.

Is the 60" mower worth the $300 (Canadian) more than the 54" mower?

The 60" has "Self balance" springs on it...worthwile?

We will add the FEL later this year.
Thanks for any input.

I can't compare the 54" to my 60" in actual use but I am thrilled with the cut, heft, design, etc. (You can look at my post "BX 2200 Grass cutting")
Not sure about the worth though. You might consider width of gates, trees, etc on your property but the BX has no problem handling the 60".
For the amount of lawn you have, in my opinion, the extra width capabilities would be well worth it over time.

This is no place to pinch pennys. The 60 incher is the one you want, it is heavier metal, has an excellent cut, will actually trim in closer (yes it will) and is an excellent match for either the 1800 or the 2200. Get the 60. J

I would have to agree with Trescrows, and Ny trainer, definitly get the 60",unless clearnce between trees or other is a problem. My BX 1800 has no problem with the 60. As for the self ballance i see no big diffrence in the cut and i have steep hills witch go up down and sideways. But i also would not have been happy with the 54" deck,as you in canada we in the N.E. have short seasons and little time before snow flies AGAIN.

I don't have experience with the 54" deck, but love the results from the 60" deck on my BX.

I've been keeping my back pasture (never been mowed in past years - just had the long grass bush-hogged twice a season) mowed since I got my BX recently. It's on about the 4th cut and looks better than my neighbor's lawn. The deceptive thing is that the pasture is uneven - quite a bouncy ride - but the finish cut is very smooth.

In fact, my wife took the BX out there at full speed this afternoon and made full use of the seat-belt as she entered the pasture. That smooth cut fooled her ...
