Don't know where the post went to that was discussing the removal of the oil filter with out the removal of the engine shroud. Here is the tool that I use to remove the oil filter without removing the engine shroud.

The spots on the hood are frozen rain drops.... Here is the tool installed on the oil filter. You have to push the wire harness out of the way to gain clearance and set the tool on the filter with the ratchet extension pointing to about the 7 o'clock position. I just put it on so it wouldn't fall off while I took the picture..... Junk...

Here is what I use to remove the oil filter on my BX23. I bought it at SEARS. I left the FEL and the covers on the tractor. Still was a pain in the back-side.

I have seen certain 3rd party oil filter canisters that have a nut welded at the center of the 'dome' to assist in the installation and removal of the filter in tight surroundings.

K&N filters has a 17mm nut, see attached picture

What I have done when I wanted to stay with the OEM's filter is bought some nuts and glued them to the can's dome using JB Weld. Then I could use a socket etc. for removal.

Yes it works quite well!

this tool was under $5.00 at the local CAP (Consumer Auto Pats) store. If you on't loose it, it should last the life of the Kubota and no nuts are needed. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Junkman do you also use the tool to tighten the filter or do you just get it hand tight??

I use one similar to Junkmans, but mine has a handle and I reach in from the top. Every manual I have ever read states to hand tighten the filter until it bottoms and then give it 1/4 to 1/2 turn by hand only.

Hand tighten only. They seem to always get tighter with age...

Hey Junk, why does the tag next to your filter say BX22?
Nice tool. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Gerard

This is what it says in the Junk Profile.
Tractor Make/Model 2003 Kubota BX-22

Maybe that has something to do with it.

Before you remove the engine shroud make sure your tractor has one.
I'm not sure all BX Models have the shroud.
If you remove one why not just leave it off for future filter changes?

Why not just take the shroud off and leave it off ?
There is no Shroud on my BX 23.

I believe some of the BX models have a shroud while others do not.

There have ben times that You can't give the filter that 1/4 to 1/2 turn in which case I have used a filter wrench .
No harm in it since 1/4 to 1/2 trun is still a 1/4 to 1/2 turn regardluss of how it's turned.

I don't take it off and leave it off, because the tractor would look very strange with it missing. You BX does have an engine shroud, as well as all other BX models have an engine shroud. Possibly you should stop posting little snippets and start posting questions to threads which you know nothing about the subject, so you will learn. The shroud is located on both sides and the front of the tractor, directly under the bonnet.

Mr. Brown,

Can you please post all your comments in one post instead of 3 and 4 posts. My finger hurts and moving the mouse to read all your stuff does not help it, not to mention these old eyes and small print. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks
