On another thread, I had mentioned that my LA211 Snap Ring keeps disappearing. Uploaded a pix; the screwdriver is pointing to the indent which normally has the snap ring.

OK… did they redesign? Anybody else loosing the ring? I do not perceive any real function (change of behavior, with or without) the thing performs.

My apologies for the poor quality pix. Hooked up an old Quick Cam I have to my laptop. The video camera was leading edge years ago, but sure is poor by today's standards. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

my 211 loader has snap ring and washer,if you didn't replace washer at same time the snapring could work off by working directly on valve frame. also that type of ring sometimes needs a little help to seat, like pliers sqeezing it into the groove to bottom it out.one other thought can't tell on mine unless i take it apart, but some snap rings have a tapper on one side if so it must be installed tapper in or it can work off very easy.this has happend to a grader from the factory, came off inside trans.and lost trans.oil pres. John Deere 570A. don't know if i helped or hurt you, good luck! my BX is about 8 mnths old,136Hrs.Again Good Luck!

Tim; I forgot about the washer! First time I lost it, I salvaged the washer. (I heard it fall, which made me realize something was amok. Found the washer, but not the ring). When I picked up he new ring, the Kubota parts guy brought to my attention that there are the two sides to the ring (I never knew that one). He showed me the tapper, and I installed it, as both you and he suggested, tapper-in.

I used a pair of lock-spring pliers, but what I didn't do was give the ends a 'pinch' as you suggested. Still wondering if it's worth going through the replacement and then possibly loosing another spring and washer, for something that may be useless. If someone can figure out a value-add, then I might consider drilling a small hole and replacing the lock spring with a cotter pin.

Roy,

The snap ring and washer are missing from mine too. Didn't even know they were gone. This may explain the rattle (or at least part of it /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif). There is also an excess of play between the cotter pin (up inside) and the side of the joystick control. There is one washer, but it looks like there is room for three or four washers. I think I'll add some more washers to take the play out. I think that will fix it right up.

Let you all know when I get it done.

Roy,
If it was me i'd fix the problem, snap ring or cotter pin would work fine.the only reason i would is Saftey, for some day when you least expect it the dam thing will lift up out of the hole and jam just as you need to drop the bucket fast to avoid rollover or something.Just the rule of thumb what can go wrong usualy will.At least thats my luck sometimes.

Oh now you done it Roy, I just looked (see attachment) and mine is missing too. (My wife thinks Im crazy, playing on the puter' and running downstairs to take pictures of the tractor - then running back upstairs?!?) There's gunna be a run on the rings and the price gunna go thru the roof! (supply and demand) If it;'s that much of a problem - does Kubota know about it?

AND. . . . . if-in you push up on the subject shaft in question (at least on the LA271) the shaft goes in and has lots of slop in the control pattern. (see attachment)

Well, I think we are all crazy sitting around talking on the computer about our lawnmowers /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif but then so what. Anyway, I went and looked at my little BX and the washer and snap ring are tight as a tick and happily in place! Sooo, what to do? --I would go get some .020 safety wire and thread it throught the snap ring ears and twist it tight and then in best aviation practice pig tail the wire back on it self so it does not slice your hand. What y'all doin to dem thangs anyways? J

TresCrows; I like your fix, unlike drilling a hole, it's reversible (just in case this is an epidemic, and Kubota comes out with a Service Bulletin). I'll give it a go. Thanks.

Skent; When I picked up a new ring the first time, I had asked if this was a known problem, they said it not. Who knows, it may be prevalent, but a lot of owners don't even realize it's missing (like GlueGuy and yourself). The only reason I had known was because I heard it fall that first time. So, I started to check it every now and then. If it were just our two, then I would expect a black-market operation… a gang of ring thieves running the B'more-Frederick corridor to get that demand up/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif.

ACC-3, PAC 10-0. One more to take care of.

Well, adding a couple of shim washers and a cut-up piece of inner tube fixed up the rattle. However, the washer/snap ring is still missing /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. The snap ring doesn't appear to be all that critical. I tried pulling the whole assembly up, and it won't go up past the point where the shaft is flush with the bottom of the assembly.
