Excellent job, I just installed a mechanical thumb on a 580L earlier this weak no where near as nice of a job you have done. Thanks for the pictures.

The one change I would probably have made would be the thumb itself. I would get rid of the bolt on framework, trimmed the pin bosses on the thumb section, installed it onto the bucket pivot via a longer pin, enabling a longer throw and much better leverage ratio for the cyl. If anything breaks on this version I will rebuild it as stated above. The method I used barely modified the actual backhoe where the above method would require extensive welding and modification of the dipperstick and bucket mount.

Thanx for the effort to post this...I am not done w/ the front grapple and I am already thinking about the rear! Nah...I want to enjoy it for a while, then I am sure I will back at refining it more and more and bigger and better and better and and and...(insert men in white coats staring reallllll hard at me here ) :confused2:

Don't know how I missed this thread. Didn't own a BX25 when it was started by the OP so maybe I just went by it. Anyway, beautiful work and a lot more than anything I could fab together, but it does have me thinking about a bastardized approach to converting my Bro Tek thumb to hydraulic. Gonna have to go out and stare at mine now for a while. :laughing:
