The pivot point on my bx2200 front axle has been leaking for a few years, more like dripping a little. It hasn't been a big deal. I use 80w90 gear oil in it, but I was wondering if a product like ATP AT-205 Re-Seal would help at all. I'll be changing the gear oil this spring as part of my routine maintenance and was wondering what other people thought about adding the reseal.

If I recall correctly there was an adjustment on my BX1850 pivot that sometimes reduces the leak. Hopefully someone more familiar with the BX will chime in.

My BX23D WSM indicates to torque the the pivot axle nut to 14.5ft lbs. That is roughly wrist tight.
You'll have to remove the cotter pin to do it. Try that 1st as it's probably only hand tight now.

If that doesn't do it the 2ea O rings and plastic keepers are probably shot. They aren't too bad to replace, maybe a 3 out of a 10 (10 being the hardest) If the axle nut has been loose for a long time the 2ea bushings in the axle could be shot. Replacing them is somewhat harder, I give it a 7 out of 10 unless you have a puller that can get them out. If you have to replace the bushings might as well replace the pivot axle shaft too.
I had to do my 2004 BX23D's bushings, O rings, keepers and axle shaft about a year ago. All the parts were available and not very expensive as most tractor parts go and it took me about 3 hrs. After I figured out how to get the 1st bushing out the 2nd wasn't a problem.

I'd be careful putting any snake oil in that front axle, 80/90 gear oil shouldn't leak a drop if everythings good.
Good luck

Back to the original question. Has anyone ever used this stop leak product? My brother has no mechanical skills and has a BX1500 which drips slightly, not enough to get him to ever attempt to do any type mechanical repair. He is going to change to the gear oil pre mowing season to see if that stop his leak but if not then next possible step needs to be considered, if there is one from someone with actual experience.

I have no experience with stop leak products other than those for cooling systems. I just go ahead and fix leaks.

I had to do this several years ago on my BX2200. The parts are cheap. I bought the parts several months prior, and I did it one summer afternoon when I was bored out of my mind.

Forgot how long it took, but maybe around ~2 1/2 hours doing it as a snails pace before I had it chooching again.

You could tell it had a "hot supper" on how well it was worn. lol
