After "rearranging" the flashers on my BX for the last time, I decided to invest the time and make a pair of flasher guards. Hopefully the guards will keep me form damaging the flashers with my own body while trying to squeeze past my BX and at the same time keep stray branches, etc from damaging them when I am playing...errrr, working in the woods.

I know others on here have had the same issues with the flashers as I, so hopefully this will give others some ideas.

The one thing I may still do is put a wire mesh over the guards facing front to keep branches from entering straight on. Oh... a piece of plastic would be perfect. It would not cut down on the visibility.

Yooperman, great job on the flasher guards. Can you tell us more how you made them? What did you use to bend them, are they welded or brazed? Any info would be appreciated. Again great job!!!!

Really nice. I wish I had something like that. I've broken mine twice since I've owned my BX.

Wish someone like BroTek or BxPanded offered something like that, I would sure buy them.

To prevent the lenses from getting knocked apart, I put a single tie wrap around the waist (between the two lights.) Haven't had one get knocked loose yet.

I used 5/16 sq rod because that was what the salvage yard had. The guards are welded. To do the bending, I purchased a Harbor Freight Bench Top Bar and Rod Bender item number #38471. I used the 3" die that comes with the bender for the smaller semicircle bend. But, I had to make a 4" diameter die for the larger semicircle bend. (Just a 2" thick piece of 4" diameter round steel with a hole drilled in the center to fit the bender.) It takes a lot of trial and error and luck to get everything just right.

On my next trip to Harbor Freight I am going to pick up a die grinder to help to grind down the welds a litter better next time.

If I missed any info you are looking for, let me know.

Bench Top Bar and Rod Bender

Thanks for the kind words.
