I have a problem with the plastic dash panel on my BX 1500 that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere.
The plastic dash panel, which is installed with double sided tape over the warning lights and around the temperature gauge and low fuel-warning indicator, keeps popping loose.
It seems to me that this part is a little large for the area it is designed to fit into. If I force the ends down, it bows up in the middle and if I force the middle down, one of the ends will eventually pop up. I removed this panel and sanded it slightly around the edges, which seemed to help some after it was reinstalled.
My dealer ordered me a new one under warranty. I am hesitant to try installing it because while at the dealership picking up the new part I went out and looked a two other BX 1500s on the lot and both of them had dash panels popped loose on the ends. It seems this is a manufacturing problem with the parts not being sized correctly.
Has anyone experienced this with their BX and how did you correct it?

Being just new on the market, you have become the product tester for the 1500

Keep the heat on them. They know they have a problem here and a fix will soon be coming.

Good luck,

Tom

If the dash panel is not sized properly (too big), it will in time pop out ...especially in hot weather when the panel expands and the adhesive softens. If it is a manufacturing problem, which is what it sounds like, then a replacement panel will have the same problem. Unless Kubota fixes it on their end (a tooling change for them) I would say your best option is to sand down the edges of a new replacement panel, as you have done previously, only maybe a bit more aggressively, perhaps starting with a file. You want the panel to be about 0.010” undersized all around. Then fit it in the recess and make any final size adjustments. When you are satisfied with the fit, clean off the glue surface on the dash really well with solvent or alcohol, peel of the protective backing from the panel and carefully position it and burnish it down thoroughly.

Good luck.

Bellweather,

Thanks for the reply.
Your suggestion is exactly what I have in mind to try. I was just wondering if anyone else has actually experienced this problem, surely they have, and successfully corrected it using this or some other procedure before I start modifying the new part?

Wanted to kick this one back to the top and see if anyone else has experienced their plastic dash panel popping loose. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've had my BX2200 for 11 months and no problem with the dash so far.

My BX-22 dash stick-on has had the same problem since it was a few months old. I push it back and it stays for a while, but it is only a matter of time that enough dirt gets under the adhesive and it won't stick any more. Mine was never left in the sun for any lenght of time. I suspect lacking QC and not cleaning the mating surface well enough.
