Hey all-
Have a BX front mount blower (2750 I think) I my B7610.

It works fine, just seems to bog the engine down in 7" of snow or more...even the fluffy stuff. Have to go pretty slow or the stuff will pile up in front of the blower.

Have tried using H and L. Low is a little better.

It does this even when blowing snow going downhill. (little strain of the engine to propel the tractor)

The tractor has no power problems with other tasks such a mowing and brush hogging.

Wondering if it's one of 2 things:
1. It's the BX blower (instead of the B model) on a B7610. Though the 7610 has more power than any BX. With a larger cid engine.
2. I've heard of people refurring to the front PTO as the "wimpy one". High RPM (2500) with little tourque. Do rear mount PTO blowers (540 rpm) perform better? I got the front mount due to my long driveway. Though I've heard of guys here running 60" REAR blowers on their BX's. What gives?

The brochure for my B7610 shows a 62" front "B" series blower works on it. But my 7610 struggles with the 50" BX I have on it. What gives? Is the "B" blower more efficient and better designed for the "B" series than the BX blower?

Anyway, just wondering, and get some responses with those B owners who have BX blowers and those who have B blowers.

Thanks in advance.

Are you running it wide open ? Perhaps you need to change the fuel filters. Sounds like it may be starving for fuel.

Yo,
We received about 12" to 14" over night I have the BX 2750 on my Kubota BX23 and It was almost too easy, I ran about half throttle and threw snow a good 30' to 35'. I think 638 is right on change fuel filters.

Well, first off, your 7610 really insn't any more muscular than a BX. They are both in the mid-twenties HP-wise. One, or two horsepower won't make a huge difference. There is no real difference in the front blowers between the BXs, and the Bs...... other than the new heavy duty blowers for the Bs are a little more rugged. They are all designed to run @ 2500 PTO speed..... and one is not geared any differently than the other. I had Kubota's 50" front blower on my old B2400 (earlier version of the 7610) and it was a snow eating machine. I can't say i couldn't bog it down by feeding it too quickly, but i was never disappointed with its performance. The key was to stuff it as full as I could, but not let the RPMs drop. I definitely think that running the tractor in high range is asking too much of it. There are times you will need to take smaller bites with your blower in deep snow...... say filling only the right (or left) side, not trying to cut a path the full width of the blower..... these are not 75 HP machines. As far as performance between front and rear blowers..... though there may be design difference between one manufacturer and the next, they are all designed to operate the same. The difference is front blowers are slowed down (for the 2500 rpm PTO) through a gearbox, or with our Kubota (RAD manufactured) blowers, a chain and a set of sprockets. I wouldn't recommend you change to a rear mounted blower since you already have the front mount. You aren't going to be happier with a 50" rear blower, especially since you'd always turned around looking behind you. I'm currently running a 30 HP B3030 with a 62" front blower and i frequently cannot take a full bite with it..... especially when knocking back the banks the town plows leave me.

The other possibility is, as stated, you have other problems with your tractor. Clogged fuel or air filters could be a problem..... or you have have a more serious problem leaving you well short of your rated HP.

I really think you are asking too much of your machine though, trying to blow in high range. I'd adjust your driving style to slow down a little, and take smaller bites if thats what you need to do to keep your RPMs above 21-2200. You are literally the first person i've seen on here dis-satisfied with the performance of a Kubota front blower. I'm on my second Kubota front blower, and couldn't be any happier.

Thanks for all the replies.

First, my thought on power wasn't about hp differences between my 7610 & the BX. It was engine size. 68.5 C.I. vs 44-55 C.I. (or 61.5 on the new 2660). If a BX can chew through 10-12" of snow, like Devildog & many others her say, an equal HP machine with a larger engine and the same blower should even be more impressive.

Second, I'm not "dissatisfied" with the blower. It does blow snow well. And it will go through 14-16" of snow. Albeit slowly....and at around 2100 rpm. (full throttle) A drop from the 2600 rpm actual full throttle. If i let up and stop "pushing" the snow, she'll pop back up to 2600 rpm. I suppose it'd be more accurate to say that I'm "less impressed" than "dissatisfied".

Also, I have to take a full swath cut on my first pass (downhill). The driveway is 1000 ft long, so that's a LONG first pass.

But the suggestion to change the fuel filter seems like a good place to start. The air filters are clean, though the fuel filter hasn't been changed for a while. Didn't think of it since I haven't had a power problem doing anything else.

Also, (when I don't forget) spraying PAM on the blower helps on sticky snow, and even on powdery snow.

Again, thanks for all the replies. I'll report back after a fuel filter change and another decent snowfall.

I run a 51" "industrial" blower on the front of my b2920 and run at half throttle most of the time and the rpm's don't drop at all! 21 hp at the pto. Your bx may be at 19 pto hp. Should not have ANY problem turning over a 4 ft. blower even in deep snow. Try that fuel filter and you should be good to go!

You don't say where you are from, but there has been some cold weather this year. Is it also possible that you are using "summer" fuel, and are getting a little gelling? That would show up in the filter as well.
